Her crinkly forehead reminded me of a ruffles potato chip. I could see her wrinkly lips moving, except I just chose not to listen. From across the room Callie and Ashley rolled their eyes, clad in Juicy Couture sweats. I shook my head at them and teetered the hotel keys on my pinky boastingly. I was currently stuck in the police office. After two weeks of hiding at Kellin's place, Callie and Ashley finally found how to track my texts. When they found me they were not so pleased. The had wasted their month's Starbuck's allowance for gas money to come and haul my sorry ass down to the station. Sorry girls, the frappes with just have to wait I guess. I held up the keys once again reminding both girls that if they wanted to get back into the hotel, they had to bail me out!
Kellin was playing a venue for the next few days, so the hoes were my only hope. The reason I hate Callie and Ashley? Well it all started in my fragile days. We all start off with thin skin as children, as did I. They used to steal my Polly pockets that I had gotten for my birthday back in second grade, break the heads and force me to swallow them. At first I didn't. Then they started forcing them into my mouth. In the years to follow they poured glue on my sweaters, kicked me out of their lunch table, and just made me socially dead in the seventh and eighth grade. Up until the trip, they'd call me a bitch and tell me to kill myself on the hate page they made dedicated to me on Facebook. So now, I decided they could squirm a little, until I was cleared.
I sat up straight facing the officer.
"Sorry I guess I just got lost from the pack," I chuckled.
"You think I'd really believe that?" she grunted.
"Worth a shot."
"Just wear this tracking bracelet and your free to go, darling!" She said placing a small sliver of black metal onto my wrist forcefully.
On our way out Ashley started flipping
" Where have you been!!!!!!!"
"Just a small party or too with Sleeping with Sirens, you wouldn't know them, and you little miss?"
"I met some really hot Cali guy<3," she said flipping her hair and forming an air heart from behind the wheel of her shiny Lexus.
'Started from the bottom blasted on the radio, I sat back and actually enjoyed the crappy pop music.
I let myself relax listening to the slow beat of my latest Drake favorite. I smiled even thinking about sleeping next to Kellin the last two nights. Maybe this broke drunken summer wouldn't be too bad.
When we arrived to the room I opened the door to a simple rose and a mango Arizona laying on my bed. On the Arizona it said "thinking of you" in the same metallic print as the shirt. I smelled the rose, still smelling faintly of Kellin's axe shower gel. I tucked it under my pillow for safe keeping and to keep Ashley and Callie just as clueless as before. After I showered that night, I saw Ashley and Callie twerking to Birthday Cake and slipping into clubbing dresses. Slightly intrigued I wandered over, when I heard the weirdest thing in weeks.
"Heyyy, come out with us tonight Kay:)" Callie half sung still twerking.
"I'm not sure...."
"Don't ever start," laughed the two, throwing a sparkly body con dress in my direction. I got ready like a real social human being. I didn't ask questions, I just carefully glazed my lips and extended my already thick lashes. I started into the mirror squinting at the girl staring back. She was gorgeous, although I quickly snapped into reality and realized how silly I was being, I was just Kay Memphis and nothing more than that. I turned up the music as I finished straightening my silky brown blonde hair. I even popped in two diamond studs, which added some sophistication to my skimpy mini-dress and clubbing heels. However, somehow I didn't look too trashy, especially opposed to Callie and Ashley who had mastered that look complete with body glitter and a nude lipstick that screamed oil slick! But for once in my life I didn't feel like a wallflower.
For once in my life I wasn't hunched up in a ball listening to Of Mice and Men, I was living. Not surviving, simply living like a human being should.
