Joe and Dianna waited patiently as the man who would be telling them how much they would earn in insurance worked out how much they would gain. It was quite late, they had to live today without anything electrical, Joan took everything including the food in the fridge. They wanted a decent amount so Dianna could look for a carer who could look after her during the night so Joe could get his homework done as soon as he got back from work and head to bed not having to worry about her. She wanted him to have a normal life, be able to be the teenager he should be and not have to look after his mother all the time. It shouldn't be this way. Joe had already fallen asleep on the couch exhausted because of what had happened, Dianna smiled kissing his cheek gently before covering his shivering body with a blanket. She carefully got up grabbing her walking stick which helped her into the kitchen gesturing to the man to follow which he did.
"Is he okay?" Lou inquired Dianna nodding her head.
"He's just tired, he looks after me as well as schooling." Dianna explained Lou nodding his head gently handing her a cheque.
"There's not a lot of valuable items that have been taken but some of your jewellery made up for the rest, I hope it's enough for you to get your life back on track." Lou revelled Dianna nodding her head gently. It wouldn't make up for what had happened here last night, she thought she could trust Joan, she must be more careful about who she trusts. She shows Lou out before getting herself ready for bed, it took longer than when Joe helped her but she got in leaving Joe to sleep downstairs. She didn't want to disturb his slumber.
"Paul have you heard about what happened to this poor family?" Denise inquired as she held her newspaper in her hands. It only took a couple of days for the media to get a hold of Joe and Dianna's story, that they were robbed when they weren't even very well off in the first place. Demi looked up from the onion she was chopping as her father looked up from the pasta pan that was getting ready to be boiled for dinner.
"Yes I have, it's horrible." Paul stated as Demi wondered over looking at the picture.
"I recognise him from school, he doesn't have any friends." Demi stated.
"Demi you should be his friend the poor boy, he does a lot for his mother it seems like. You know what I'm going to bake some brownies and we'll go over Demi and be the nice neighbours." Denise insisted, she had always been one to want to please people and reading this story in the newspaper it was clear they needed some help.
"I'm sure they want to be left alone mom, I know what you're like." Demi spoke but Denise shook her head gently.
"We'll go over, it will be nice." Denise demanded Demi sighing nodding her head. Paul shook his head gently as he begun to cook dinner with his daughter. Demi had never spoke to Joe before, he was just in a couple of her classes but never seemed bothered to even try making friends, Joe knew he didn't have time for friends. She knew it would be nice to befriend him but she didn't want him to push her away, she hated people who did that.
"You know Joe, the boy, looks a lot like Nick? He looks more like Nick's brother than Kevin does!" Demi exclaimed making them laugh.
"I'm sure it's just a coincidence." Paul stated.
"Some people do look like others, maybe he's just Nick's look alike." They gained in a conversation as they cooked dinner for everyone then cleaning the kitchen down while it continued to cook. Denise had already begun to make the brownies to take over to Joe and Dianna's house. Demi couldn't help but be nervous not knowing what would happen when she went over to her mother's house the next day. She didn't know Joe but she soon would.
