Joe was led through into a room which was empty besides him and the two other police officers. They took his handcuffs off Joe taking a seat down on the chair as they sat down opposite him so he could be questioned. He wasn't really up to talking though. He had been accused of abusing his own girlfriend, he had been pushed up against the wall by her father and on top of that his son and daughter have been taken out of his apartment which should be a safe place for them. Just because Demi had a couple of bruises on her arms which she could have gotten from work when a problem child played up. He was innocent and didn't deserve to be in this situation.

"Are Cai and Kaia alright?" Joe questioned wanting to know that they were safe and nothing was wrong with them. He didn't like the idea of them being upset or hurt with what had happened today, they learnt they were going to be a big brother and sister but now they were alone somewhere with strangers. He couldn't imagine how scared they must be.

"They have been taken to a care home for a couple of hours, they will stay there until Demi is released from the hospital then she can take them." Officer Jones explained.

"I haven't done anything to Demi, I don't understand what's going on." Joe ran his fingers through is hair having to hold back his tears.

"What was your childhood like?" The other officer questioned having a pen in his hand ready to note down what was said so they could either build a case or abort it depending how they feel about the situation and what going to be said.

"I'd say it was normal but it wasn't. My father left me and my mother when I was barely walking or talking, it was normal until I was about eleven. My mom was in a car accident and broke her back, I looked after her every day until I was sixteen or seventeen when she went to a care home. Since then I've been working and had Cai and Kaia to look after." Joe explained.

"How long have you been with Demi now?" Officer Jones inquired.

"Nearly two months." Joe spoke simply.

"Do you ever recall having a fight with her?" Joe shook his head gently continuing to answer any questions they had honestly. He was innocent so didn't need to worry about lying, as long as he told the truth and didn't lie about anything.

Joe was questioned for about an hour before the officers decided he was safe enough to let go and be with Demi and their children allowing him to have permission to pick Cai and Kaia up from the care home. They had no real evidence that Joe had abused her in any way, they only had the bruises with Demi denying that Joe had ever touched her in an aggressive kind of way. It was hard for Joe to sit though everything that they were asking him, he didn't know how any man could hit a woman. He wasn't a man to Joe at all. He slowly made his way through the corridors deep in thought about everything that had happened. He hoped he could convince Paul that he was a good guy, he would hate it if his girlfriend's father didn't at least like him. He turned the corner seeing Demi's parents in the waiting room outside Demi's room confused when he saw them crying. He didn't know whether to approach but he did standing not too far away from them.

"What's going on?" He questioned.

"Oh my boy!" Denise choked through her sobs laying her hands on his cheeks, he made no effort to move them.

"What do you mean your boy?"Joe questioned again as Denise looked into his eyes. They looked identical to her husbands' and her other three sons. There was no denying it at all, her son was stood right in front of her.

"J-Joe, the hospital got you and Demi swapped at birth, you're our son and Demi is Dianna's daughter." Denise explained through her cries. She just couldn't believe that she had raised the wrong child all these years.
