A month later:
It had been a long & busy day since it was the beginning of the exam season. Half an hour after the final bell had rung Nawal Bakhtiyar finally made her way out of the staffroom. She was accompanied by her colleague & friend Geeta as they both walked downstairs together. The middle of March symbolised the beginning of the exams & just like the students; their teachers had extremely busy schedules during this period. It was stressful & exhausting however the thought of the coming vacation was what kept them all going. But to Nawal Bakhtiyar it was more than just vacation. For the coming summer break was going to be a turning point in her life as one of its days was going to be her wedding day!
"I am really looking forward for the break", Geeta spoke tiredly.
"Yeah me too", Nawal nonchalantly replied.
Geeta turned to her friend with a teasing smile,"Ofcourse you would look forward to it Nawal. Its going to be your big day somewhere in the middle."
"Yes but aside from that I am a normal human being & just like my fellow colleagues I am tired of work. So I need a break." Nawal tried to shrug it off.
Geeta put an arm around her shoulders, "Oh dear, but now you are going to have a permanent vacation. So you can rest as much as you want. "
"Yes Alhamdulillah. Finally."
Nawal spoke more to herself.Ofcourse these were the last few weeks of her job as she was going to quit it after the exams.Nawal didn't want to do a job in the first place but for the sake of proving herself to her father she had to do it. Some days after her engagement Mrs.Shaykh had talked to her aunt about it & made it clear that Arhaan didn't want his bride to work.Well, not that Nawal wanted either! So it was a mutually agreed decision.
The two exhausted friends finally walked out of the building &onto the campus where a few children were playing around.
The fresh evening breeze strolled past them & Nawal halted a bit to take in the fresh air."Geeti, what's the rush? Let's wait for sometime." She grabbed her friend's hand making her stop as well.
"Nawal, we will miss the bus."
"So what, it's not like there's just one bus available." Nawal opposed &her friend finally gave in.
Both of them sat down on one of the benches in the huge campus talking about random things.
"Hey Nawal, look at that." Geeta all of a sudden pointed towards something.
"What?" Nawal followed her gaze to see the same children that were playing earlier in the campus.
"I thought he was an orphan." Geeta spoke yet again more to herself.
Her friend turned to face her feeling slightly irritated.
"Who are you talking about Geeti?""Nawal, look at that boy, the one who is in your class, I remember you telling me that he lost his parents.See someone is talking to him.And he has a candy in his hand." Geeta informed.
Nawal looked ahead & this time her gaze rested on the little boy from first grade whom she liked very much.He was a very quite kid & he didn't mingle with anyone.Nawal being the kind person that she was; she would often give him chocolates & gifts & help him with anything in school. She also tutored him for free. Because after enquiring she had come to know that he was an orphan & he lived with one of his aunt's.Also his aunt wasn't financially sound & she worked as a domestic servant. Nawal felt quite bad for him & she would try her best to cheer him up whenever she was with him.
