The night maiden had engulfed the world in its dark yet warm embrace. Even though it was dark, the serene, soothing charm that radiated from the elegant night maiden did cast a wave of peace all around. The beautiful white moon gleamed brightly in the night sky and smiled down at its millions of admirers!
Clusters of stars encircled the graceful white planet, and twinkled with joy to have its gorgeous presence in their midst. The quaint little town of Sundarnagar was lit up by the cool,white moonlight that gave a soothing feeling in the wide spread darkness.
On the terrace of a small, white house,two friends were sitting together, holding hands and gazing up at the Starry sky. The house was full of chaos; teenagers laughing and teasing, children playing around and elders having their elderly chat.
It was the night before the wedding and everyone was excited to welcome the most awaited day. In one of the rooms a group of young girls was engrossed in drawing henna designs on each other's hands.
Farheen was also sitting among them with her 4 year old daughter.
Contrary to the chaotic atmosphere in the house, the terrace above was engulfed in silence. The two young friends were sitting under the moonlight fully contented in each other's presence. There was silence around them, yet it was a comfortable silence!
The winter breeze swayed past them, leaving smiles on their graceful faces. Nawal was keenly engrossed in counting the glittering stars while her friend was totally captivated by the royal beauty of the elegant Moon!
"There are many stars tonight in the sky.........its a perfectly Starry night........" Nawal smiled gazing admiringly at the sky. "And the bright moonlight is spread around making it seem like the sky is adorned in a white gown with beautiful glittering diamonds."
Nawal shook her head still smiling as she enjoyed the magnificent view. When her friend didn't respond, she frowned and turned to her. Nawal nudged her friend a little and she instantly looked at her, startled by the gesture.
"What's wrong Nawal? " Zaara questioned looking around.
Nawal rolled her eyes as she answered, "That's exactly what I want to ask you.Whats wrong with you? Did u even hear what I said just now?"
"Uh...something about....Ummm.....gown and diamonds, right?" Zaara nervously spoke hoping she had heard it right.
"Yes, but you didn't hear what I said exactly. Now tell me what were you thinking? " Nawal questioned narrowing her observant eyes.
Zaara looked up at the moon and spoke in a state of daze," I was just wondering how beautiful the moon is......And it's soo....self contented ......all by itself.....Yet shining brightly in the dark and enlightening everything around with its glowing light."
"Yes MashaAllah it is beautiful",
Nawal agreed smiling and turned to her friend scrutinising her fair face.
Zaara stared back at her friend giving her a questioning look, "What happened? Why are you staring at me?"
"Why? Can't I stare at my best friend? "Nawal retorted.
Zaara smiled, "Ofcourse you can, but I wonder why you would stare at me when there are so many beautiful things around, worth staring ."
