The morning sun filtered gently through the curtains. Shivika sat cross-legged on the bed, sipping from her coffee mug while pretending to scroll through a recipe she had no intention of trying.
Kritika sat across the bed, reading a magazine.
But both of them knew the air wasn't light.
"You sure he won't tease you about the photo?" Kritika asked, flipping a page.
"I deleted it immediately," Shivika said, eyes fixed on the screen.
"But he saw it."
"Just shut up."
Kritika smirked. "You do realise how intimate that was? A stupid pouty face. Something only people who matter get to see."
Shivika rolled her eyes. "It was an accident."
Kritika whispered with a grin, "Accidents don't become wallpapers."
Shivika snapped her head up. "What?"
Kritika nodded slowly, smug. "I walked past his phone this morning. That's your pout-face. Home screen."
Shivika flushed. "He's insane."
"Yeah," Kritika said softly. "Insanely in love."
___
Siddharth stood by the window of his room, his phone charging on the table beside him.
On the screen, the soft glow of sunlight shone behind one particular image:
Shivika - frizzy hair, pouting, frowning slightly, wearing a hoodie and no makeup. It wasn't posed. It wasn't perfect.
It was her.
Real.
He stared at the screen for a few seconds before locking it again.
"Even in mistakes... you make me smile."

They had all set out for the hike by late morning - Kritika, Karan, Tanya, Vibha, and Reyansh up front, already arguing over the route and taking selfies.
Shivika and Siddharth?
Trailing behind.
She wore a white top, high-waisted jeans, and a messy bun that kept falling apart. Her sunglasses slipped down her nose every few minutes. And yet, she looked annoyingly breathtaking.
Siddharth hadn't said much since they left.
Not yet.
They walked through narrow paths, stepping over rocks, dodging branches, sharing the same trail but staying two steps apart.
____
The trail narrowed just before the top. Trees arched overhead like a crown of green, and the slope turned gentle, welcoming them to the edge of something vast.
Shivika paused.
She was breathless-but not from the climb.
From the view.
The hills of Shimla rolled out before her, blanketed in golden haze. Soft clouds kissed the mountaintops. Far below, rooftops glimmered like scattered jewels under the late sun. The sky stretched endless - a painting only nature could make.
