Siddharth had waited long enough. Days had passed since Shivika returned to college, colder and quieter than ever before. She passed by him like a stranger now—no fights, no sarcastic remarks, no questions. Just silence.

But today, when he saw her walking out of the canteen, he couldn’t hold it in anymore.

He grabbed her wrist, ignoring the surprised looks of passing students.

“Siddharth, leave my hand,” she snapped.

“No,” he said through clenched teeth. “You don’t get to shut me out without telling me why.”

“I don’t owe you anything,” she said, trying to pull away.

But he didn’t let go.

A few minutes later, they were on the terrace—silent, isolated, wind brushing through their hair.

Shivika jerked her hand out of his grip. “Are you out of your mind?”

“Yes,” he replied, exasperated. “Because you’ve been walking around like I never existed. Like we never mattered.”

“Don’t do that,” she muttered. “Don’t make this about you.”

“Then make it about you!” he shouted. “Tell me what I did, Shivika! Tell me why you’re hurting!”

She turned away, arms crossed, lips tight.

“I said, talk to me!”

She finally spun around, her voice trembling but furious.

“You want to know why I’m hurting?” she hissed. “You really want to know?”

His eyes didn’t flinch.

“I’m hurting because I loved you for years. Because I stayed up nights waiting for you to notice the little things I did. Because I made you my world when I wasn’t even a thought in yours.”

Siddharth was stunned.

“I was there for every heartbreak, every win, every bad grade, every damn day! I laughed at your stupid jokes, stayed back to study with you even when I was sick, and still… you never saw me.”

She took a breath, tears brimming.

“I was invisible, Siddharth. And even when I tried to be visible, you looked through me.”

He tried to speak, but she raised her hand to stop him.

“You want to hear the worst part?” Her voice cracked. “Even when I saw you kiss Kriti… I still smiled. Because I didn’t want you to be uncomfortable. I walked away with blood on my knee and my heart—but I still smiled.”

Silence stretched like a blade between them.

Then Siddharth said the words she feared the most.

“Shivika… main ne tumhe kabhi us nazar se nahi dekha.”

(“I never saw you that way.”)

She stared at him, hollow.

“I know,” she whispered. “That’s what hurts the most.”

And she walked away, this time without looking back.
