Siddharth sat at the edge of his bed.

Staring at the same spot on the floor.

Unmoving. Unblinking.

The sunlight poured through the curtains, golden and soft — a mocking contrast to the ache inside him.

Last night had wrecked him.

But this morning?

This morning had buried him.

“She still doesn’t trust me.”

And why would she?

He hadn’t given her a single reason to.

Not back then. Not for three years. Not even when she cried in silence and he… disappeared.

“She thought I took advantage of her.”

That thought alone made his chest hollow out.

“I held her when she couldn’t walk. I kept her safe. Gave her my shirt, my room, my care…”

“And she still looked at me like I was the villain.”

He ran both hands through his hair.

“But maybe I was.”

He stared at the glass of untouched water beside him.

“What did I expect? That after three years of hurting her, she’d magically believe I was the hero?”

A sad laugh slipped through.

“I broke her trust once.”

“She’s allowed to question it again.”

He exhaled, slowly. Shaky.

Then stood up.

“I love her.”

“But maybe love isn’t enough if I’m the reason she can’t breathe freely.”

He looked toward the window.

The Malhotra house glowed with pre-wedding frenzy.

Drums. Laughter. Lights.

“She deserves peace.”

“Not this guilt-wrapped version of me.”

He stepped back. Picked up his sherwani.

And whispered to the silent air:

“If staying away means she’ll never doubt her worth again…”

“Then  I'll stop chasing her

Shivika was lying on the bed in her bridesmaid lehenga — a soft blush pink with gold work, the dupatta tossed carelessly to the side.

No makeup yet.

No hairstyle.

Just her, staring at the ceiling.

And smiling like a complete idiot.

“He didn’t touch me last night…”

“Even when I gave him every reason to…”
