The sun had barely risen, but the Malhotra house was already alive with the sounds of steel vessels clinking, phone calls on speaker mode, and Shivika’s mom shouting from the kitchen, "Shivika beta, haldi doodh piya ya nahi?"
Shivika groaned under her blanket. "Mumma, it’s my roka, not a wrestling match. No haldi doodh."
Her mom peeked into the room with a ladle in hand. “Kya matlab? Shaadi se pehle immunity strong karni padti hai!”
Shivika rolled her eyes, dragging herself to sit up on her bed, hair wild, eyes sleepy, the weight of the day slowly crashing in.

Shivika sat in front of the mirror, draped in a soft blush-pink suit with intricate silver threadwork. Her jhumkas dangled every time she moved, and the light pink lipstick made her look ethereal.
Kritika sat on the bed behind her, baby boy in her arms, looking smug.
“You sure you don’t wanna elope? It’s cheaper.”
“Don’t tempt me,” Shivika muttered, trying to fix her bindi.
Her mom peeked in. “Ready? They’re reaching in 30 minutes!”
Shivika: " idhar saamne rehte hai fir bhi 30 minutes"
( They live in front of us still they want 30 minutes)
" Ab agar saamne rehte ho to aese hi aajaye kya they also had 100 things to like us beta " her mom said
( It's not like if they live near they don't have 100 things to do like us )
" Got it got it " shivika said as she knew if she will speak something more her mom will gave her an hour of Good values lecture so it's between to be defeated in some things
" Where's papa " shivika asked
Her mom: “Already at the door, pretending he doesn’t care, but he just cleaned his glasses five times.”
Kritika: “Iconic dad move.”
