Malhotra House — Early Morning

The soft golden light of the morning barely peeked through the cream curtains in Shivika's room when a sudden blast of dhol beats filled the air outside. Shivika groaned, burying her face in her pillow.

"Oh God... who allowed Punjabi DJs at 7 AM?!"

Before she could even sit up, the door to her room burst open. Kritika, holding her baby boy in one arm and a bowl of haldi in the other, barged in with full dramatic flair. Behind her came Riya and a cousin, both dressed in yellow, giggling like mischievous witches.

"RISE AND SHINE, BRIDEZILLA!"

"No! 10 more minutes," Shivika cried, trying to hide under her blanket.

Riya grinned. "Not happening. We have haldi, and we have no mercy."

Before Shivika could protest, a blob of cold haldi paste landed on her cheek.

"AAAH! Kya tha yeh?!"

Kritika laughed, "That's called love, haldi style. Now get up, Dulhan. Your turmeric glow-up awaits."

Downstairs - Haldi Chaos Begins

The Malhotra backyard had been transformed into a bright yellow wonderland. Drapes of marigolds fluttered from the trees, banana leaves covered the tables, and the chairs were covered in yellow and white. The scent of haldi, sandalwood, rosewater, and fried kachoris filled the air.

Shivika, finally dressed in a stunning yellow sharara with floral jewellery and minimal makeup, stepped into the sunlight.

The second she did, cheers erupted.

"DULHAN AA GAYI!"

Her mother, wearing a mustard cotton saree, came forward and cupped her face.

"You look like my sunshine, beta. Just... don’t make me cry today."

Shivika smiled softly, holding her mom’s hands. "If you cry, I’ll cry, and then the haldi will mix with mascara, and we’ll scare the guests."

Kritika and Riya ushered her toward the chair at the centre. No sooner had she sat down than her cousins and relatives took turns smearing haldi all over her face, neck, arms, even toes.

One cousin sneakily dabbed haldi on her hair parting.

Shivika: "ARE YOU SERIOUS?! THIS TAKES HOURS TO WASH!"

The cousin shrugged: "Shuddhikaran, behen."

Singhania House — At the Same Time

Siddharth's haldi ceremony was no less dramatic.

"Put him in the middle! We want FULL coverage," shouted Bhua Ji, holding her phone up for an Instagram live.

Siddharth, already in a white kurta now decorated with yellow handprints, squinted. "I thought this was a function, not paintball."

Aman, grinning like a devil, stepped forward with a bowl. "This haldi is special. Riya's nani made it. She said it has 'shaadi ke baad glow'."

Siddharth: "Or maybe skin irritation. I trust no one."

His mom gently applied haldi to his face, smiling through misty eyes. "Tu bohot bada ho gaya hai... aur handsome bhi. Mere Siddhu."

Bhua Ji: "Bas dulha ban gaya, ab baby bhi jaldi dena!"

Siddharth choked. "Can I survive today first?"

Sneaky Call — Mid-Haldi Madness

Hidden behind the storage room, Shivika wiped her cheek with tissue and quickly dialled.

"Hello?"

"Hey yellow bride," Siddharth’s voice came through.

"Mango smoothie dulha, kya haal?"

"Haldi in my ears, haldi on my eyelashes, and Bhua ji is threatening to do my pedicure. You tell me."

"I’m covered in turmeric head to toe and someone used me as a canvas."

"Perfect. We match."

She smiled. "Can't believe we’re doing all this. It feels... surreal."

"It feels like we’re getting closer to forever. One ritual at a time."

Later — Lunch & Love

Post-haldi, everyone gathered for lunch.

Samosas, poori-chhole, jalebis, and a special kesar-pista kheer lined the buffet.

Karan and Aman had an impromptu dance battle to "Desi Girl" with Kritika clapping and cheering.

Riya recorded everything on her phone while Bhua ji danced with a spoon in one hand.

Meanwhile, Siddharth texted another picture of himself — shirtless with haldi everywhere.

Siddharth: "Still hot?"

Shivika: "More like hot mess."

Siddharth: "You love this mess."

Malhotra House — Evening Emotions

As the day settled, Shivika sat on the balcony in her cotton kurti, face washed, but smile intact.

Her mother sat beside her, brushing her hair.

"Dekhna, kal tera ghar pura khaali lagega."

Shivika leaned her head on her mom’s shoulder. "Main yahin hoon, Mumma."

"Hamesha ke liye nahi na, beta. Par tu khush rahe... bas yahi dua hai."

Kritika joined them,

"Ma, remember how you cried after my haldi? You said the same line."

Her mother smiled through tears. "Meri dono betiyan ab parayi ho gayi... par dil ke sabse kareeb hi rahengi."

All three sat together, watching the sunset.

A moment wrapped in yellow, turmeric, and tears.

And love.
