Omniscient POV

Janet sank into the plush cushions of her couch in the bedroom that she shared with Darius, the phone pressed tightly against her ear. She didn't want Darius to hear the conversation as it was about his own mother. She knew he was excited that she was there. She had her doubts. The soft hum of the city outside played in the background as she spoke with Gil. Janet needed his no nonsense honest opinion in the situation she was currently in.

"Gil, I'm telling you, I just can't shake this feeling," Janet said, her voice tinged with anxiety. "Gloria's here, and I can't help, but think she's up to something."

"She's still there?"

"Yes." She sighed heavily.

"Oh wow!" Him surprised.

"What if it's a set up?"

"Girl you watchin to many crime shows." He laughed out. "I'ma need you to stop."

"Gil I'm serious."

Gil sighed on the other end, the sound crackling through the line. "Janet, you're overthinking it. Maybe she genuinely wants to make amends."

"Make amends?" Janet scoffed, rolling her eyes. "What are 70 years old?! This is the woman who hasmade it clear she thought I wasn't good enough for her son. Just because she's showing up with a smile doesn't mean she's changed."

"Maybe she's had a change of heart," Gil suggested, trying to sound reassuring. "People can surprise you, you know? You're a successful woman, and Gloria is, well, Gloria. Maybe she's ready to accept you for who you are. Like you need to accept her."

Janet took a deep breath, glancing toward the window as the sun streamed through.

"I don't doubt that she's capable of changing, but I can't ignore the past. Darius and I have been married for a while now, and she's barely acknowledged our relationship. Why is she suddenly interested now?"

"Maybe she realized that being stubborn isn't helping anyone. Or maybe she just wants to get to know her daughter-in-law better. Or maybe the kids. You have to remember Booty, she's human too. People make mistakes," Gil said, his voice steady.

"She's staying here, Gil. In our home. I can't help, but feel that she's waiting for the right moment to pounce," Janet replied, her voice dropping to a whisper as if the walls themselves might overhear her suspicion.

"Pounce? Come on. You're being dramatic," Gil chuckled lightly, trying to ease the tension. "What could she possibly gain from that? You're married to Darius. You're successful. What more could she want from you?"

"She wants control? Maybe money? Who really knows." Janet murmured, biting her lip. "I think she's trying to reassert that control now that she's in town."

Gil sighed again. "Janet, I know you have your doubts, but this might be a chance for you to set boundaries and finally stand your ground. You're a strong woman. Don't let Gloria intimidate you. Just be yourself."

"Be myself?" Janet echoed incredulously. "You know how that goes. Being myself isn't enough for some people. Everyone has this certain image of me because I'm famous. Maybe she wants me to fit into her mold, to be the perfect daughter-in-law she envisioned. And I'm not that person."

"Then don't be," Gil urged. "Show her who you really are. All your success, your charm, the person Darius fell in love with. Use this opportunity."

Janet listened to his words, her heart racing at the thought of facing Gloria. "It's just hard, Gil. I've always felt like I had to prove myself to everyone, and now that she's here, I feel the pressure all over again. Especially because I'm married to her son. I had her grandchild. It's a lot to take in."
