It is, undoubtedly, hot on the day of the sports festival. You would think that the crowd would be groggier and grumpy with the summer heat, but alas... they've never been more pumped up in their lives.
Every student in the campus gathered outside to watch the relay race, eager to watch the competition. Obstacles lay ahead before the players - one representative from each class. And (not so surprisingly) Oikawa became the class' martyr to run in this blistering heat.
Well, it's not as if Oikawa didn't like it. In fact, he feels honored - pumped up to lead his class to victory.
The prize? Winning class receives free meatbuns from the school's canteen for the rest of the summer.
"Do it for the meatbuns," Fukui narrows her eyes at Oikawa, "...Do it for the glory."
Oikawa huffs and nods, determined, as he continues to stretch his calves to warm up. And everyone in their class thought of the same thing that... These two speak the same idiotic language....
"Kusoikawa, don't push yourself." Iwaizumi warns.
All the other competitors look just as fired up, so it's quite a tough competition. The captain of the school's basketball club is participating as well. Fukui flashes Oikawa a thumbs up as the referee begins his countdown:
Three, Two, One...Go!
The first few seconds of the race, Oikawa falls behind - but he gradually regains speed. It helps too that he was able to slip past the obstacles with ease. So far, it was only the hurdling bars to worry about and the vault - and soon enough with Oikawa's all rounder skills, he earns the second place next to the basketball captain.
Oikawa's knees are on fire - but he wills himself further with his breath coming out in short wisps. The blistering air scrapes his lungs as he halts to the next obstacle.
It's a huge bar, and strips of paper dangle from the strings to which they are tied on. He's supposed to reach one of those without the use of his hands and finish the race with the listed person.
He picks one of the strips that hover the lowest and leaps to snatch it with his mouth.
As soon as his eyes read the paper, he drops the slip and immediately searches the crowd for her.
Fukui hadn't expected for Oikawa to come back to her with an urgent look, holding out his hand for her to run with him. He gives Fukui an encouraging smile, breathless and inviting as Fukui gazes at him incredulously.
"Ha? Why me?Iwaizumi is - "
"No time - no time to explain, Ume-chan." Oikawa grabs her hands and urges her to get up, "just come with me and let's finish this!"
They fell behind to third place, with Fukui trying her best not to hold Oikawa back as she runs as fast as she can. Oikawa's hands grip firmly on her wrist, not intending to let go until they reach the last obstacle of the relay. It was a large, dark tent in the middle of the track. It's enclosed on all sides, so no other spectators can see what's inside.
Objective of this is to get dressed into new clothes. Quickly.
While the two are blessed with the tent's shade, it's too dark to actually see anything. Fukui and Oikawa both blindly pat on something - grabbing the nearest to them and began to change into their new clothes.
