Takumi couldn't sleep again.
He slipped out of the warm bed and opened the doors to the balcony, taking a fresh breath of the cool summer air. With a sigh, he looked up at the glimmering light from the cityscape of Tokyo.
It's not like it's uncommon for him however - some nights his eyes refuse to let him rest. With his father staying late at work like usual, he is left alone in the house with his little brother, who is asleep.
He's back at home. At Tokyo. Didn't he wanted this long ago? Wasn't it just a couple months ago that he wanted to be back here - in peace and quiet? He hated living with a stranger in Miyagi; how careless of his father to even allow so.
He got what he wanted now.
But why does he feel so heavy?
"Why're you awake, Taku-nii?"
Takumi turns his head to see his little brother, a blanket draped over his shoulders. Haru yawns with squinty, sleepy eyes. "It's late... Otou-san won't come home until five."
"Go to sleep then. I'll just stay here for a little longer." Takumi says. "I can't sleep anyways."
At this, it grows quiet. Haru pauses, looking up at his brother with a questioning glance. He then joins Takumi in staring at the city lights, a nodding with knowing glance.
"I miss her too."
Takumi frowned. Was he really that easy to read?
"I don't miss Fukui-san," Takumi rejects lamely, "I'm just a little irritated."
Haru quirks his head cutely, "Irritated how?"
"You know - how it's taking Fukui forever to get here. Oikawa -san's already somewhere in Tokyo, worried sick, and she's still there."
"How are you so sure about that?"
Takumi shakes Haru's shoulders like it's the most obvious thing in the world. "You idiot-! He almost fainted when she came home drunk with a cut on her throat. I'm sure leaving her alone again on her own for this long will plague him for a lifetime."
Haru wriggles out of Takumi's strong gasp. "Oi! Nii-chan! Have some faith in Fuku-nii! I'm sure she's taking care of herself fine while Oikawa-nii is away."
"I'm not saying she's incapable of self-care," Takumi says, "but it seems that whenever we leave her alone, all sorts of wrong happen to her."
Haru opens his mouth to argue back, but he has a point: going home drunk, along with almost drowning to death, or that time where she stubbornly stuck herself up in a tree on Christmas Eve. It's too much for even Haru to think about.
Haru twiddles his toes in thought, then hugs himself tighter with the blanket. "Let's just hope she's okay."
With that, Takumi nods.
