Phone snug between her shoulder and her cheek, Fukui stared at the canvas before her. One hand holds the pencil, and the other feeling the smooth surface of the canvas. Then, she shifts her glance at the newly bought tubes of oil paint at the desk, just beside the green crayon from the time capsule.

It was raining hard that night.

But it didn't seem to bother Fukui one bit. In a way, there is comfort in rain. Yes, it is indeed gloomy, but the way the drops trickle down the window - the gentle tip tapping noise of the water against glass - puts her at ease. The rain was a soft reminder: It was just like that day Oikawa knocked on her door for the first time.

The only noise apart from that is the radio playing softly from her night stand. The song sounds familliar, and she even remembers the tune, humming along with it.

I was trying to act tough by myself recklessly,
The real person who had been making me suffer all along...

was none other than myself.
I'm glad I was able to meet you.

Ah. She remembers it now. Ayame sang that on Valentines day. The day of one of her silly missions. It all felt so long ago...

After a few series low ringing, the call sends her to voicemail.

-*-

Someone knocked on the door.

Well, it could be called knock at first, at least. After a while, the knocks grew to insistent banging, and Oikawa groaned in defeat as he wretches his eyes open. The sheets are so warm, and the door feels like miles away. He gets up, looking at the clock (who wakes him up at eleven at night?!) and creaks the door open grumpily.

"Yes....can I help you..." He slurrs irritably, rubbing his eyes. But when his pupils focus, his annoyance leaves him. "Yaku-chan?"

"Oh - is Kuroo not here? Sorry for waking you." He smiles apologetically. "I just happened to run out of toothpaste - it's too late in the night to go out to the convenience store..."

Oikawa blinks, eyes stinging of sleep, before creaking the door open to let him in. After he got the toothpaste,Yaku says his thanks, apologizes, and leaves promptly.

Once the door closed, the drowsiness that pulled on his eyes left him. Restlessness settled as he tossed and turned around his bed. After a few unsuccessful attempts, he checks his phone to see the time.

[Missed call from Ume-chan ♥️♥️.]

It was nearly an hour ago. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Oikawa slaps a hand to his face and lets out a groan of frustration. He knew he shouldn't have fallen asleep! He curses to himself, calls back as he rose from his bed and began to pace back and forth. Ringing. Waiting.

Umeko's probably asleep by now - no - even if she was awake, she'll probably ignore his calls again. She's probably angry, confused to no ends and will never talk to him... Not after everything he had done -

"Hello?"

Sound of raindrops buzzed along with the quiet static of the phone. Oikawa pulls back the phone to see the screen, and Fukui stared at the camera. A yellow lamplight lights up the room, warm and hazy.

She did not seem angry at all - in fact, she looked somewhat concerned. Oikawa looked like he turned into stone, and Fukui was not sure if the camera froze.
