Oikawa Tooru's christmas this year took another turn.
Usually, he stayed indoors on the evening of the twenty fourth, a warm mug of hot chocolate hand. He's watching the christmas movies on television along with his father in the couch, although he's a lot more into the movie than his father, even though both have watched it every year. His mother would be reading a novel, as well, tranquility in her eyes. The living room is warm, the blankets are cottony clouds and the faint crackling of the fireplace make this all just so serene.
This is peaceful, Tooru thinks, he wishes christmas occurs numerous times in a year, instead of one.
"Tooru," her mother says sweetly, placing the book down on her lap. Tooru replies.
"Yes?"
"I've been thinking..." Her mother turns her head briefly to the window, glancing at the house across the street. The windows of Fukui's house are pitch black, except for the glowing string of lights lined on the linings of her roof. "Don't you wanna invite Umeko-chan here? She lives alone, right?"
"Don't worry," Oikawa reassures, "her mom is spending christmas with her. They kinda have their own thing going on."
Oikawa knows this because it's the only thing Fukui can not shut up about. On walks home, she's always planning on places to go with her, where to eat, what gift to give her, how to decorate the house for her, which scented candle she would like - it's endless. She talks to Oikawa about how they're going to meet at nine by the bench at the clock tower, go around the town squre until ten, and then go home.
The clock ticks to eleven.
"Oh..." Her mother says, a bit disappointed. "...but wouldn't it be more fun if there's more people to spend this day with?"
"Tooru, you should go ask them if they want to join us," his father suggests. "I'm sure they'd appreciate the offer.
And so Tooru nods, grabbing the coat from the door and leaves the house and ack - the outside is much colder than it was this morning. The edges of the doorknob is frosted with snow from the outside, and he forgets to take off his indoor slippers and replace them with proper shoes. His toes are cold, but at least it's just a quick trip from across the street.
Tooru knocks the times.
"Ume-chan, open up!"
No answer.
He knocks again, louder.
"Hey, do you wanna spend christmas with us?" He says through the door.
Still no answer.
Oikawa then notices that the windows of the Fukui household is black, no signs of anyone inside. They...They should be home by now... It's already eleven...
Oikawa bites the inside of his lip in worry and rushes back into his house and only pokes his head by the door, "mom, they're not there...!" he says breathlessly, "I'll be right back, okay?"
"Wait..! Where are you going?" His mother asks.
"Town square. It shouldn't take long!" He says quickly, and closes the door on them after that.
"Be home by twelve -! Ah..! Tooru you forgot to wear your shoes!"
