*BREAKING NEWS*

Earthquake hits remote mountainous region in the north, early reports suggest many missing and catastrophic damage to structures.

Ryujin saw the news and knew she would be called in to be deployed on this. Known for strategic calm under pressure, she was respected by her elite recon unit despite being a woman. Beneath the stoic exterior lay emotional damage that she forcebly buried.

"Sergeant." A few soldiers already in the briefing room saluted when she entered, then linking up with a handful of fellow rank soldiers. The room was packed with high ranking soldiers and their teams ready to head out into the disaster zone.

"A remote mountainous region on a fault line, recently hit by a catastrophic earthquake. But early seismic readings and intel suggest suspicious activity. Could also be rumours." The captain calm, professional explained the situation in a business like manner as everyone listened intently.

Nobody wasted anytime, seconds lost could mean the difference between life and death. Gathering up their gear required loading it into military trucks. While helicopters dropped off other equipment to the zone. The military cordoned off the surrounding area and evacuating civilians.

Once at the earthquake location perimter, stationed just at the border of their cordoned area a command post base where they would operate out of. Soldiers were deployed due to it being similar characteristics to a war zone, squads out for rescue and recon, while medics joined for immediate field care, stabilising injured until they could safely be transferred.

Temporary tents, fractured terrain and smoke on the horizon. A team of medics are being briefed at the site. One being Y/n, previous experience of such events. A competent trauma medic who mainly worked in high stakes ER and volunteer services on humanitarian deployments. Her skills very much welcome on this. Just like soldiers her job required her to be emotionally guarded, disciplined and work long hours.

In the internal fields operation tent where the medics were being briefed, assigned to their team and given their equipment.

Fresh from the drop zone Ryujin walks towards the tent. The flaps snap open, dust stained boots kick up a little bit of dirt. Her helmet under her arm, hair in a neat bun as her dark eyes swept the room. She tired but sharp, she never did show her fatigue until a mission was over she couldn't afford too.

A few of the medics are standing around a table, map laid out with pins and drawings all over it. Y/n is one of them, hair messily tied up, stethoscope slung over her neck. Her eyes scanned the map until she flicked her eyes up and froze. Ryujin stops too and the moment hangs.

"Well. Guess this is what they mean by blast from the past." Ryujin says flatly.

"Didn't realize the army was digging that deep into the reserves." Y/n replies dryly.

"You're still running into war zones instead of away from them?" The soldier points out.

"You're still confusing deployment with personal growth?" Y/n acts unbothered by the encounter.

Silence. Then a flicker of a smile, quickly buried by Ryujin.

Y/n walks past her, brushing her shoulder slightly too deliberate to be accidental. She watches her go.

"Should've known it'd be you." The sergeant says under her breath.

"You never did know much, Ryujin." Y/n called back.
