"YOU'RE WHAT?" both hendery and dejun exclaimed, baffled as ever.
yes, the two had been aware of donghyuck's slightly mild crush on minji. it's not as if he'd been hiding it very well, all the signs were there. however, they had been oblivious, up until this exact moment, to the fact that he'd evidently been in love with minji.
hendery threw his hands up in his hair in disbelief. "mate. did you fall on your head? in love?" he closed his eyes, not wanting to believe it.
dejun on the other hand was seemingly planning their wedding in his head already. he'd been looking forward to the day where donghyuck would finally come to terms with his feelings for minji, and today had been that day.
donghyuck just shook his head. "i don't know what happened, man. i just— i don't know. fucking hell. it wasn't on my bucketlist either, but i guess it just happened." he panted.
he was unsure of how to phrase it really. minji had been his sworn enemy since he was a little boy. they loathed each other and that was how it was still supposed to be to this day.
but along the way something had shifted in the way he looked at her. maybe it was the pact messing with his feelings, which tricked him into thinking he was into her, but deep down he knew that was a lie he fed himself to justify his sudden feelings towards the girl.
truth was, he felt scared. he hadn't ever been in love with anyone. let alone someone who he had promised to hate all of his life.
donghyuck snapped out of his thoughts when he felt dejun's hand rest on his right shoulder. "it's okay man. truth be told, i actually think you guys are perfect for each other."

a smile seemed to briefly take over the frown on donghyuck's face, until he caught himself, quickly changing he demeanor with a scratch of his throat.
swiftly and surely, he shook his head left and right to snap himself out of the delusion that was about to convince him that he actually had a shot with a girl like her.
"it won't ever happen. she doesn't see me like that, she made that perfectly clear."
the last sentence was mostly spoken in a melancholic whisper. saying it out loud shattered his heart a little more that he had expected it to.

he repeated the word in his head.
if her best friends thought they would be perfect together, that must mean something right?
again, to shut off any misapprehensions, he shook his head. they can't and won't ever work.
