Delilah and I both look back and forth between my Aunt Laura and Miles who are sitting in front of us while Delilah and I sit close together opposite them. Aunt Laura shoots me a nervous look before giving Delilah a hesitant smile. Delilah's face brightens before she blurts out what's been on both of our minds, "Are you guys together now?"

Miles lets out a sigh before pinching the bridge of his nose while Aunt Laura just laughs softly before taking his hand in hers and nodding with a smile mirroring Delilah's.

I let out a soft laugh, subtlety was never my girl's strongest suit.

"Awww" Delilah coos looking between them.

"Delilah." Miles groans but she doesn't relent.

"When did it happen?" she asks eagerly.

Aunt Laura raises an eyebrow "When did that happen?" she asks, gesturing towards us.

It's only then I realize just how close Delilah and I are sitting. Glued together on the couch as if we were afraid of letting go, my hand resting in her lap while she fiddled with it.

We both stiffen as we look towards each other in horror. Miles's head snaps up as he glares at our interlinked hands. "Yeah," he bites out glaring at me, "When did that happen?"

Delilah's cheeks turn bright red as she bites her lip while I sit frozen.

Now how the hell am I supposed to answer that?

"Well-" I'm cut off (more like saved) by the ringing of the doorbell.

Miles immediately shifts his attention to Aunt Laura who mirrors his panic. He grips her hands in his, "it's probably just Lisa she said she was close by the last time we spoke to her." Aunt Laura nods but her grip is still tight. "Hey," Miles says reassuringly, "Everything is alright. He isn't coming until we give the okay. Nothing is going to happen to them, I promise."

Her demeanor softens and she nods, letting him go.

My whole body goes rigid and the mention of my mom's name. Delilah's hands tighten around mine.

"Whats going on?" I ask on urgently. "Why is mom coming and why do you look nervous?"

Aunt Laura sighs, "Everything will be alright, okay? Just wait a bit for your mom to come and explain everything."

"Connor," my mom breathes as soon as she spots me. Miles comes in behind her but not before locking the door. A sleeping Anna is in her arms dreaming blissfully. And on her other shoulder is a duffel bag.

What the hell?

"Oh my boy," She almost cried cupping my face. "Mom" I say immediately alarmed. Her eyes are rimmed red and she looks exhausted. "What's wrong?"

Delilah's hand squeezes mine before she lets go and gestures for my mom to give her Anna. "I'll take her to sleep upstairs."

Sniffing my mom hands her over, "Thank you dear" she says, patting Delilah's shoulder.

Delilah gives her a warm smile, "Of course." Her eyes find mine full of worry. Worry for me.

"I'll be back."

I nod holding on to her words like a lifeline.

"Let's let your mom catch her breath for a second, Connor.", Miles says.

I nod absentmindedly.

Leading my mom to the couch we had just vacated. Aunt Laura comes forward and gives her a glass of water. Hugging her to her chest. My mom leans completely on her soul sister as she takes sips of water while nodding to whatever my Aunt is whispering in her ear.

Lilah comes back and makes a beeline straight to me. I wrap my arms around her as she settles against my chest. It may not look like it, but she's the one offering me comfort.

"Mom?" I ask tentatively not wanting to startle her.

Her head raises slightly and she looks at me with unease, whispering two words that tilt my world sideways.

"He's back."

"And he wants to see us"
