Seeing Through Lying Eyes

The next morning, I woke up feeling... Refreshed? Happier? I didn't know what it was but it made me feel more lively than I've been feeling. As I stretched my sore body and yawned, I placed my hand on something hard and metal. Puzzled, I glanced over at what the item I was touching and then relaxed realizing that it was my now fully-charged phone. Relaxed, I picked up my phone and skimmed through it if I had any messages. Other than the million missed calls from Jake, there wasn't much. But as soon as I was going to put it back, it vibrated in my hand, which made me jump a bit. I looked at the screen again. It was from Steve.

"Meet me at ((whatever park)) at 11:30am? :)"

A smilie face? Really Steve? I shook my head from the ridiculousness but it was thoughtful, so I had to grin. I put my phone back on the desk and rubbed my eyes. My body felt more stable, so I got up and went to the bathroom.

After showering and getting dressed, I went to the kitchen, not knowing what to make or even bothering since I've lost my appetite long ago. I sighed exhaustingly and decided to at least make some coffee to keep me awake for the day. I would probably need all my strength to bear with Steve; he tends to talk a lot, which just drains my energy. As the coffee maker was doing it's business, I looked around the room, just trying to remember what took place in here. I could visually see it; Jess being as happy as can be, humming her little tones as she made breakfast. Then me sneaking up behind her, giving her a warm hug and kiss against her welcoming body. She made me whole, she made me realize that I definitely found my key to life, to protect and love her as much as I could.

The loud beep of the coffee maker made me jump. Sighing from the disappointment of the interruption, I walked over to the machine and finished making my coffee. I then sat down at the lonely table again, with my coffee in my hand, and slowly sipped it as I looked at the chair in front of me, where Jess used to sit. Too soon. It was all too soon. She was going to make her life so much better, with the baby coming along; it was going to be perfect. She didn't deserve it, we both didn't. Sighing deeper with debrief, I drank more of my coffee, trying to keep my body as still as possible because I didn't want to go rabid again, even though my body was warming up from the anger I've stored up.

Spring was definitely showing outside, with the birds chirping, sun shining through the blossoming trees; it was absolutely beautiful. I took a deep breath, taking all of it's energy and releasing all of the negativity, I needed to restore myself. As I continued walking through the park, I could see laughing children playing, lovely couples sharing feelings, and everything else between. It made me glad to see people enjoy their lives, you just don't know when it will end. I don't know if Jessica would say if she was successful in her lifetime, I couldn't ask her. I stopped, shaking my head. Stop that! You're suppose to think positive. What the hell is wrong with you? I clenched my fists together, trying to hold my anger.

"Nick!" I looked up to see Steve walking towards me. I could feel myself smile but it quickly vanished when I saw the person walking next to Steve. Who the heck was that? He was a tall, broad looking guy, who could probably kick my ass if I'd let him. I still looked puzzled as Steve came up to me.

"Oh, how rude of me! Nick this is my boyfriend, Lucas." Steve couldn't have been more proud in his announcement but I still didn't get it. Boyfriend? This guy looked like bad news, I could tell that he wasn't pleased to see me. But I suppose that I had to play along to please Steve, so I just have him a small nod. Unfortunately, he kept glaring at me, and not going to lie, it was making me a bit nervous. I swallowed hard, how was I going to stand this guy?
