As I ran down the stairs, the medics and other backup police were already at the scene. I quickly walked pass them, avoiding eye contact. My main goal was to catch that killer and put him in his place, or better yet just take care of him myself. I finally got outside where police siren and the medics were getting set up. I was just about to head to my car until I heard my name called out.

"Detective Nick?" I turned around, seeing the chief before me and nodded at him, though I was a bit puzzled to see him here. "Chief?"

"We heard what happened, just didn't know that it was one of ours." He put his hand on my shoulder. He had the same apologetic look on his face like Jake's. "I'm sorry."

I gave him a brief nod and looked away. "I'm going after him, alone." Chief opened his mouth but then closed it, understanding my point and gave my shoulder a soft pat.

"Do what you have to do Nick, we'll do as much as we can here." He said as he handed one of the radios towards me. "We'll give you updates along the way."

I took the radio from him, nodding again and made my way to the car. My whole body was boiling by the time I got in and started the engine. I was one of the head agents in the bureau and with this task alone I could handle.  But Jake was right, I don't know who I'm dealing with, but I was sure to find out soon.

After collecting all of the materials I needed at the station, I walked out of the building with the duffel bag on my shoulder. I popped open the trunk and placed it in there, I managed to collect everything that I might need to catch a killer. I slammed the trunk down and took a deep breath as I rested my hands on the trunk. 5 years... and then it's just gone before you know it... Jessica and I were coming home from a long road trip that we decided to do after her brother's wedding up in Montana. It was a lovely wedding, really, and we had other great news coming our way. We were getting read to start our own family, even though Jess was only three weeks, but she was so excited to finally have one of her own. she couldn't wait, she already had a list of names pic-

I had to stop my mind from continuing, I couldn't handle listening to it now. I shook my head and took another deep breath. Stop... Stop distracting yourself Nick. You need to focus. After taking another deep breath, I walked back into the driver's seat. I started the car up and looked around the area. This place was a ghost town, nothing but crooks and criminals roaming around these areas, trying to get their hands on almost anything and everything they can get to. I was proud to do my job, to protect the ones I loved. But when someone messes with me or someone I cared about, they're dead to me. They'd be lucky to see daylight ever again cause when I catch them, they'd be sorry that they did it in the first place.
