(Jake's POV)
This road was getting me nowhere. I tried taking a short cut this time but now I think I'm just getting myself more lost. Already frustrated and tired I tried to park and turn around in the unfamiliar area when my phone started to vibrate in my pocket. Sighing deeply, I turned off the car and answered the phone.
"Hello?" I asked into it.
"Is this Jake Sullivan?" The voice asked in return.
"Yes, who is this?" I couldn't recognize the voice or the caller id but somehow they knew who I was.
"This is Dr. Wilson, Nick Kendall is one of my patients. You visited him not to long ago, is that true?"
I swallowed hard, trying not to break again from the painful visit. "Y-yes, that's true. But doctor, if you don't mind me asking, why are you calling me? I thought you guys were closed."
"That was true, until we found out that his cardiac monitor started to become active. In other words Mr. Sullivan, Nick is stable." My heart almost stopped when I heard the magic word.
"H-he's alive?" I was almost out of breath since I was holding it in for so long. My heart race quickened and I had to put my hand on my chest to try to control it.
"Mr. Sullivan? Would you like to come by again to see for yourself?" The doctor suggested and I tried to contain myself from bursting into tears at that moment.
I cleared my throat. "Y-yes, o-of course. I'll be there soon. Thank you doctor." After hanging up, I couldn't help but let the tears that I held in for so long to finally come out. He was alive, Nick was fucking alive. When I started my car again, I didn't spring off, something caught my mind. Steve... He must've heard the news, right? Biting my lip, I didn't know whether or not to go with my gut. But I shook my head, typed into the gps and turned the car around. Finally making up my mind, Steve had the right to know, he was his friend as well, regardless of my behavior towards him. I sprinted towards the direction that the map told me to go. My heart was racing with joy. Nick was alive. I wondered if he heard my confessions from the other night, and if he did, how he felt about it. But I couldn't think about that now, my best friend was alive, and that's all what matters now.

I got to my first destination, Steve's apartment. It didn't look how I pictured it but that didn't matter. After knocking on the door, I impatiently waited for him to approach the door. This was embarrassing for me, but I didn't care anymore. I had to put all of my emotions behind me, this was the most important task that I had to do, to tell Steve the truth.
I tensed up as the door opened and saw a broad man who towered me, making me look more like a wimp than I was already feeling. Taking a deep breath, I turned towards him to brace him.
"Is Steve here? I need to talk to him." I swallowed hard.
The man raises his eyebrow and smirked. "Why the fuck do you need to talk to him? If it's so important, you can tell me." He stepped forward, making me cowardly step back and I straightened up again.
"I didn't ask for you. Now tell me where St-" I started to say but the person who I requested peaked through.
He perked up as he saw me. "Don't worry Lucas, it'll be fine." The broad man scoffed and left my presents, with Steve replacing him.
"Jake, right? What's going on?" Steve looked confused, not knowing the exciting news that I was about to give him.
"It's Nick, he's awake but he's only stable." I told him professionally but to my surprise, I could see Steve almost jump with joy.
