Catch me if you can.
That's all it fucking said on the note.

I read it over and over again, studying the piece of paper closely to see if it had any scribbles or other words, but there was nothing else, just those words. I crumbled the paper up and threw it across the room, panting with anger. I didn't dared to look back at Jessica, who was laying on the bed next to me, covered in blood. There were stab wounds all over her, markings on her throat where the killer tried to choke her.

I shook my head in disgust before getting up. My body was burning up from the anger I've been holding in. What kind of sick asshole would do such a thing? And why here? My mind was filling up with questions like it usually does during an investigation. But this was.... Different. This seemed more of a threat than a murder. I clenched my fists together at the thought. That asshole is gonna pay. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and pushed the numbers with my shaking hands. As the other line started ringing, my heart started racing.

"Nick? It's 5 in the morning? What the hell-" Jake's mumbled voice started saying but I didn't have time for him to finish.

"Get your ass down here at The Windslow Motel, now." I hung up before he could comment and put my phone back in my pocket. I took a deep breath, running my hands through my hair, trying to calm down. I tried not looking at her bloody body on the bed, I already had my short breakdown just right after the killing. I walked over to the table and chairs by the window and looked out. It was still dark out of course, but the city lights just made it so lively. Lively... There's nothing lively about this situation. My mind was telling me, and it was right. My wife was dead and there's a killer on the loose. My emotions were all over the place but I needed to stay focus, I took another deep breath. I will catch this killer, dead or alive, it doesn't matter cause he's going to pay for his actions.
