(Steve's POV)
I was getting nervous, he wasn't back yet. I kept looking outside to see if he was coming, but there was never any movement.
"I'm worried about him.." I finally confessed. Jake sighed.
"Just give him time, he'll come running back. He can't stay out there forever." He replied, still in his calm state.
I turned towards him. "But what if he's hurt? What if he needs help?"
Jake raised his eyebrow at me. "We're talking about the same Nick here, right? The one who gets through everything, regardless of how he's feeling?"
I looked down. "But he's changed so much. I think that this finally pushed him off the edge." I got up and glanced out the window.
"I'm going to find him, just to make sure that he's okay."
Jake rolled his eyes. "Whatever, I'll camp here." I glared at Jake.
"You're the one who wanted to get him back to his feet! Why can't you just let him be?" I was getting upset by his behavior.
Jake kept glaring at me. "Not my fault that he was being so difficult."
I sighed, walked towards the front door and out the negative environment.
He couldn't have gone far, right? I thought to myself. My heart was racing, I was worried sick about him. He's been through so much already, he could easily just end it. Just thinking about that made my whole body panic, I couldn't loose him, not after what we've been through. I was determined to get him back on track, but by seeing his decrease, it seemed like it was going no where.
As I wandered through the dark woods, it started to get chillier. Holding my body close, I looked around every direction. Where could he be?
"Nick?! Nick, where are you?!" I shouted but I could only hear the echoes come back to me. This wasn't good, with Nick being weak as it is, he shouldn't have gone alone. He's not thinking straight, he needed someone to help him guide in the right direction.
I suddenly stopped and bit my lip. But what if he didn't want this kind of help? He did say that he felt like he was sleeping for years, and when he awoke, he was upset. I knew that he was disappointed, he didn't want to come back. I just thought that I could make him realize how much we needed him, but it wasn't going as I'd hope.
As I continued to walk, my eyes caught a figure by the stump of a tree. I perked up and ran towards the shadow, hoping that it was the man I was searching for.
"Nick! Nick, are you alright?!" I asked the figure, who was actually sitting. His discolored face turned to me, looking as if he's had it and was on the edge. I crouched near him, placing my hand on his hurt shoulder very gently, trying not to apply pressure.
"Nick, ar-are you okay?" I softly asked him, hoping that he didn't do anything stupid while I was searching for him. But he just looked at me, as if he was disappointed to see me. His eyes were bloodshot, the red vains in his dilated eyes was the only color to him.
"Why are you here? Why waste your time to find me Steve? What's the fucking point if i'm going nowhere?" He told me, his tone was lost. I stared at him, bringing my hand on his and holding it tight.
"Nick please. I know you can do this. I believe in you, you just have to be positive-" I tried telling him but he shook his head.
"It's no use Steve. I'm done, I quit. There's nothing else to do, there was never any positive in this situation. Jessica is dead, she always will be. My life has just gotten worse from that fact. I'm sick and tired of pretending that nothing fucking happened when it tragically destroyed my life. I can't live on like this, I need to end it." He confessed.
