It's a humid summer night and you're standing in front of the police station. Leaning against the front of the building you spark your lighter, taking a long drag off your freshly lit cigarette. Just as you pulled the stick of tobacco away and exhaled smoke a fellow detective stepped outside. You glanced in his direction as he walked toward you, a half smile on his lips.

"You know that's going to kill you." He said, standing next to you with his hands in his pants pockets.

"You have no room to talk, detective Hong." You stated.

Hong Joshua chuckled lightly as he proceeded to pull out a pack of cigarettes of his own. You offered your lighter to him and he gladly accepted it, opening the zippo and lighting his stick of tobacco. Joshua flicked his wrist and closed the lid with a quick clink sound before passing it back to you. The detective leaned against the building with his left foot on the brick and his other hand still in his pocket.

The two of you have worked together in the police force for years, growing a bond with one another after the many cases you've solved together. You're one of a handful of women working in the jurisdiction so there are plenty of misogynistic officers around you. But no matter what Joshua always has your back when others in the police department don't. Their crude remarks and prejudice against you only fuels your hunger to prove everyone wrong.

You're not a saint by any means though. You didn't get the job as a detective with pure intentions in mind. You actually have a dark secret no one knows about and if anyone were to find out you'd lose your badge and get thrown in prison immediately. It's been years since you've become a detective and no one suspects you still.

Secretly, you're connected to a major crime boss. As a teenager growing up on the streets without a family you had to resort to desperate, and oftentimes aggressive, measures to survive the brutal world you were thrown into. Mr. Jeon, the head of the Jeon Mafia, found you scrapping with one of his men one night after you were caught stealing food from one of Mr. Jeon's restaurants. He was most impressed that a young girl your age was ballsy enough to take on a grown man twice your size and strength, knowing the outcome wasn't in your favor.

But what surprised Mr. Jeon the most about you was your drive. Just when he thought you had had enough of a beating, laying face down on the ground after being kicked repeatedly, you sprung to your feet. His lackey let down his guard and you launched yourself at the man. You managed to pick the man off the ground and arched your back, using all of your momentum to throw the Mafia member back and knocked him out. You didn't realize you were being watched until Mr. Jeon began clapping from the shadows, startling you into a fighting stance.

That's when he made you an offer you couldn't refuse. From that point on the head of the Jeon Mafia was your boss and your teacher. He helped you perfect your fighting techniques, he showed you the means of his underground business by teaching you how to work financial books. And most importantly he gave you a roof to sleep under. You were more than indebted to him.

You signed your life away to your boss. And once Mr. Jeon thought you were ready he made you his right-hand man, his personal body guard. When there were missions he knew needed to be completed without a hitch he sent you out to do it. Whether it was to steal something, survey somewhere, or even eliminate someone; you did it all for your boss.

Mr. Jeon was the reason why you became a detective. You were already an asset to him but with your inside intelligence at the police department you became even more valuable to your crime boss. You relayed any and every little detail there was that Mr. Jeon wanted. You even sneakily disrupted any evidence the department would have against your boss without ever being caught. Anything for Mr. Jeon.

You couldn't quite call your boss a father figure considering he's less than 10 years older than you, but he's taught you more life skills than any parents you ever had before. You looked up to him, respected him and the empire he managed to create at his age, and even dreamed of being in his shoes one day. But that was before you entered the police force. As the years went by working as an officer, then a detective, you slowly began seeing how much good you can do with your life by helping others. But your debt to Mr. Jeon haunts you, keeping you from ever leaving.
