Vacation was over, and when the classes were back the girls barely saw the days passing by. It was already Wednesday and they were wishing for the weekend. Oh, that was Anna, Barbra was enjoying.
– Barbra!
– Hi Sydney!
– Did you take notes about what the professor was saying? I totally forgot...
– That's ok, I can give you mine!
– Thanks! You're always saving everyone's life!
The girl was happy to hear it. She wasn't one of those people who are smart to feed the ego; she truly liked helping other people. And it was so good to be useful, to have people liking you. And most importantly, to not have to be hidden in her sister's shadow.
Barbra went to the library were she could use her laptop for start her AutoCAD project without being disturbed, and stayed late there. It was almost 7 p.m. when she realized the hour.
It was dark; the college didn't have the best illumination. She was walking outside where she could get a bus, and observed the cars passing by. She hated people who didn't know how to drive, and apparently there were a lot of them today.
When she was almost at the bus station her foot got stuck, and she stumbled on a rock because of it, dropping all the books she was carrying on the floor.
At that very same moment, a guy in a motorcycle passed over one of the books. The girl had made a strange sound with her throat. Noticing he had hit something, the guy looked back and saw Barbra picking her books of the floor, with a miserable face. "Did I smash her foot?" He thought. So he stopped the motorcycle and went to talk to her.
– Excuse me... Did I pass over your foot? I am really sorry, wasn't paying much of attention, do you need to go to the hospital or something?
She was staring confused at him, and distracted by the fact that he was still using his helmet. He seemed to notice, and took it off, revealing – to Barbra – an interesting face. He seemed like a sweet guy.
– Oh, you smashed my book, my foot it's alright, thank you.
– Are you being sarcastic?
– What?
She was scared. Availing him, she concluded that he wasn't joking with her. Maybe he was a little weird. He was thinking the same about her when saw the bunch of books she was carrying, and her intact foot.
– Huh... Forget it. So, I'm sorry again... That's a lot of books that you're carrying...
– Yeah, I mean, I need then for my classes.
– Ok... But you shouldn't be carrying them all, I'm pretty sure you didn't use it.
– I...
She was smiling to the stranger. It was true that she didn't use them all, but she liked to be prepared.
– Oh... I'm Evan, by the way.
– Nice to meet you. I'm Barbra.
– Guess you're a really polite girl, huh? I was hoping you would punch me or something because of your book.
– Oh, that's my sister... I like to be civilized.
He laughed.
– Can I offer you a ride home? I think it's the least I can do... And besides, it's dark and you would be all alone waiting for the bus.
It wasn't true. There were lots of people at the bus station. Barbra wasn't sure about going with him. She liked him, but had just met him.
– Hm... Can you promise me you're not a psycho or something?
– Well... Guess you're going to found out!
He offer her the extra helmet, and most for curiosity – and also because she really doubted he could be a psycho – she got in the motorcycle.
– Thanks for bringing me.
– No problem.
"I told you I'm going bald! If I have to cut my hair I'll sue them!" They were hearing the screaming inside the house and then Anna opened the door and her eyes were passing through the boy and her sister, full of surprise.
– Barbra! You finally have a boyfriend! And you brought him to meet us! So cool little sis!
Barbra was rolling her eyes. Anna was walking on Evan's direction to introduce herself. He was quite intrigued by her. He could notice that Barbra had changed her nice personality and was on a bad mood right now. In these two seconds he also realized that Anna was the very opposite of her sister. He thought Barbra seemed nice, althought a little reserved. He was curious about Anna, but she certainly had something.
– Hi, I'm Anna!
– Evan.
The girl smiled availing him without hide it. Barbra had watched that scene a million times before. But then... She knew her sister wasn't interesting in Evan. She was trying to get back with Ryan. But... What if Evan got interest on her? It would distract Anna, and Ryan wouldn't like it. It was an innocent thing to do. She was decided to try; after all, it wasn't hard for Evan to like Anna, right?
