I didn't have the energy to scream when the Shadow tossed me back onto the grassy rock. Pan stared at me, stone faced. "I tried to do this the nice way, Elyssa. I really did." His jaw was set. "No wonder the Queen leaves you to stew in your room until you're useful again."

"I don't get it. Why? Why keep me here?" I took a breath. I refuse to cry despite the burning in my chest. "Why be nice to me at all?"

"How do you think this works, lass? Hm? I ask and you deliver? Not quite." He waved his shadow off. "I need you, Elyssa. More importantly, I need what's stuck inside that pretty heart of yours." A small smirk played on his lips. "Your magic, dearie. The one thing I can't just rip from you. I needed you to trust me, and the easiest way to get a naïve girl to trust you? Well, you know the rest."

Everything went still. My body felt heavy. There it was, finally. The truth. "It was all a lie," I whispered. The burning got hotter and my vision blurred slightly.

"Of course it was. What? Did you think I loved you?" Pan's voice was full of amusement. I physically winced. "'Course, I did make you believe it. I s'pose I can't blame you for thinking so."

"Why are you telling me this now?" My voice broke and my nails were practically drawing blood as I balled my fists to keep steady. "You could have just taken my power."

"If it were that simple, why didn't Rumpelstiltskin do it first? Why didn't the Evil Queen? They both need your power. Your light magic, and your dark magic." I was silent. It was a good point. Why didn't they? "It's because they can't. The only one who can use it, is the person it's bound to. No matter, however. Baelfire left a bit earlier than I would have liked, but it will work out how it's supposed to. And the stronger you get, the heavier that necklace I gave you gets. In quite a few years time, it will all finally come together."

I was shaking. My breathing was shallow. I wanted to show no fear, but there he is practically laughing. I couldn't control the tears. My knees gave out. I was hollow.

"Oh dear. Pathetic." Pan sighed. "When you come back, I do hope you'll have some of that fire back. It really was the time I liked you best."

        Come back?

"And don't worry. By the time we see each other again, you'll have forgotten these last few days and most of the bits where I just... didn't feel like pretending anymore. Shadow!" He called. "Take her back to the Enchanted Forest. Drop her wherever you like."

It wooshed around and scooped me up.

~~

I landed outside of a small village. My face was wet. Why was I crying again? Pan. Because of Pan. He admitted it. Remember. Remember. He admitted it. Admitted what? What did he admit? Lying. Right. Lying. He lied. About what he wanted? About...

        "I can't remember," I whispered. "Why can't I remember?"

That concludes the past chapters :)

I know this has gotta be quite possibly the longest anyone has ever taken to finish something, but the creative is kinda back and I hate leaving it like this. Hopefully the style isn't too different now.

Enjoy :)
