I was in the backyard with Layla, picking flowers from the gorgeous garden. Caleb and Aaron were busy trying to find out who was trying to kidnap me yesterday at the restaurant.

I was still shaken up after what happened, but Caleb assured me that he would handle everything.

I knew I could trust him; I was just scared.

"Aria, look at these flowers. They're so pretty," Layla urged, pointing at the beautiful flowers.

I reached down, picking one of them up. It looked so pretty—like nothing I'd ever seen before.

"Isn't it gorgeous?" Layla asked in pure shock at the flower.

"M-Mhmm... i-it's u-unique," I replied softly as I stared at it.

I was mesmerized by its beauty and uniqueness. This was one of the biggest reasons I enjoyed being outside.

Nature was so beautiful and peaceful to me.

I looked up toward Layla and noticed she was staring at something in the distance. I tilted my head slightly, looking over her shoulder.

"W-What's o-over t-there, L-Layla?" I asked curiously.

She looked at me, smiling softly. "Nothing... I just thought I heard something." She brushed it off, grabbing my hand.

"Nothing. Let's just go back inside. I'm getting hungry."

I smiled at the thought of food and ignored how suspicious she was being as I followed her into the house.

I sat on a chair at the kitchen counter while Layla made us a quick sandwich. I placed the flowers we picked into a vase on the counter.

A knock sounded at the front door.

I got down from my chair and carefully walked over, unlocking the door.

Lydia and Sammy stood there.

"Where have you guys been all morning?" Lydia asked as she walked into the house, heading straight for the living room.

"Don't mind her," Sammy said, smiling sweetly at me. "She's in her little moods again."

I closed the front door quietly.

"C-Caleb's b-busy. T-that's w-why w-we d-didn't c-come o-over," I explained as Sammy followed me into the kitchen.

"Hey, Layla," Sammy greeted softly.

I sat back down and picked up the sandwich Layla made me, but I suddenly felt self-conscious and placed it back on the plate.

That urge to eat quickly hit me—like someone would take my food away from me.

I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of Layla and Sammy, so I pushed the plate away.

I rubbed my baby bump, smiling softly. I was so close to giving birth now. Time was passing so quickly, but I was ready to meet our baby boy.

"Nonna, please. Now is not the time," Caleb said as he walked into the kitchen with Aaron behind him.

"What happened?" Lydia asked, pointing her wooden spoon at him threateningly.
"Tell me now, boy."

Caleb sighed, pushing the spoon out of his face. "Someone is after my wife."

Lydia's eyes widened, and Sammy gasped.

"Who—better yet, why?" Lydia questioned, shocked and confused.

"Look, Nonna, I need you and Sammy to leave now. This has nothing to do with you," Caleb said, making her visibly angry.
