Later that night after I'd already gone to sleep I was woken by the echo of a loud thump somewhere in the house. It startled me, but I didn't make any noise. I got up and tiptoed to the door, trying not to make any sound while I walked to the staircase.
I opened my mouth to call out 'Gramps' but I decided against it incase I alerted the person in the house, and it wasn't gramps. He's never usually active at this time of morning, and I'm never awake. It must be like 2 or 3 am.
Slowly, I crept down the staircase and heard two deep male voices. It seemed like they were arguing, and I recognised one as Gramps. I had to stop myself from letting out a shriek as I peeked my head around the stairs and saw two men standing there.
"She's not ready," Gramps said with a growl. He had his arms folded on his chest and he was clearly irritated. At the man and the subject of speech or the time of morning, I'm not sure.
"He flew in early Thursday morning. If he finds her, I'll have no chance. She needs to be taken care of now," the man said. Who the hell were they talking about and why did it have to be this early in the morning? Something tells me this wasn't supposed to hit my ears. 'Well duh,' I thought. 'Thats why it's this early, downstairs out of my ears and in the dark.' I knew I should go but the curiosity got the better of me.
"When?" Gramps asked.
"Break it on Wednesday."
"That's too soon," Gramps hissed.
"He's too young. He can't have found his mate already. I've been waiting hundreds of years, and it's growing worse. Either I have her, or I end this right here and now and you don't live to see tomorrow." The threat hung heavy in the air, but not as heavy as my head felt with the words he was talking. He's hundreds of years old? Yeah right. I rolled my eyes. This dudes a creep. But mate? And why is he threatening Gramps?
Was he going to kill him? Were they talking about me? Is that who the 'she' is? I tried to swallow my fear.
We're freaking human, what the hell is he yapping about. Gramps shifted in his spot, swapping legs.
"Fine," he said. He ushered the man out the door. I jumped up in my spot and quietly treaded back up the stairs. I shut my door as I heard Gramps walking up the stairs and jumped in my bed.
I heard Gramps footsteps retreat to his bedroom, and he shut his door. PHEW. That could have ended in a disaster. I lay there, thinking about what I'd heard. What was going to happen Wednesday? What was so important Gramps needed to tell that girl. And who is that girl? I didn't think he knew anyone else.
My interest sparked thinking about who that guy was. I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling when I heard his voice. There's something about him that just.... creeps me out. Something inside me tells me that I should stay far away from him, and I completely agree. All I feel is cold and chill. I let my mind wander about a whirlwind of dark and curious thoughts before I fell back asleep. I was suddenly zapped of energy.

When my alarm clock went off in the morning, it took me forever to get up and ready. My eyes kept sagging and my movements were slow. I kept bumping into things and cursing, positive at least half of them were going to cause a bruise.
When I finally got out the door, I remembered I hadn't eaten anything. I contemplated going back inside to eat, but I felt too tired to backtrack my way quietly through the house. I decided against it, and slumped down and sat on the ditch instead. My book bag fall in a clump beside me and whilst I heard it, I dropped to my hands surrounding my knees and I let out a big sigh. I could already tell that this day will last forever.
