Chapter 24: Ross’s P.O.V-
I snow boarded down the mountain and came to a halt when I saw Carter sitting in the truck at the foot of the mountain. She was huddled in the driver’s seat crying her eyes. If I knew one thing about Carter it was that she never drove with the doors locked. I opened the door and stood ready to catch her when she fell out. It didn’t take a second before she knew it was me and fell into my waiting arms. I held her to my chest and kissed her head.
“I think I just… need a day alone.” Carter sniffed as she wiped her cheek.
“There’s no way I’m going back to the cabin.” I shook my head.
“Then go to… my old cabin,” she said “I went there a couple nights ago when I couldn’t sleep. The key’s in the flower pot.”
“Does it still belong to you?” I asked.
“Yes,” she said “We Stonewells aren’t known to sell things.” She shrugged.
“How far away is it?” I asked.
“Just down the back of the mountain yours sits on. It’s the only one on that side.” She said.
“Ok, I love you.” I said.
“I love you too!” she wrapped her arms around my neck.
I kissed her neck and started up the mountain again. I heard Carter start the engine and drive away. I couldn’t believe the things that had happened today! It all just made me want to scream.
Carter’s P.O.V-
I drove into town and the first thing I did was look for a Starbucks. There were two reasons for why I was looking for that business specifically; One, I just wanted a nice coffee and some sort of chocolate baked good, and two I needed the wifi for Skype. When I finally found one I went into the café and ordered a double chocolaty chip Frappuccino blended crème and a hefty CHUNK of the Marble Pound Cake. I took that into a secluded area of the store and set up my laptop for Skype. I texted my friend from England, Rosie Moore; I’m pretty sure you remember her from the summer. She was there for me when Ross and I broke up. It was one of those crazy experiences that you can’t IMAGINE going through without ALL of your friends and family.
In seconds she replied and I fired off my Skype request. I put on my headphones so people could only hear one side of the conversation.
“Hey,” Rose started.
“Hey Rosie,” I smiled “How’s the Christmas season treating you?”
“Pretty great,” she gushed in a way that only she can “Riley is spending it with me and my family which that makes me really happy.”
“Oh and how is Riley?” I asked.
“He’s fantastic,” she grinned “How’s Ross?”
“He’s… Amazing.” I smiled “Pretty angry at the moment but other than that he’s amazing.”
“Angry? About what?” she asked.
“A friend of one of his cousins said that I didn’t know a thing about true loss when the only thing she’s “lost” is her mother’s aunt’s best friend’s ex- husband’s new neighbor’s daughter’s father.” I didn’t even know if I got that right.
“Her who with what now? Are they even related?” Rosie asked.
“I don’t even think they know each other!” I said.
“That’s rude of her to assume that you’ve never lost anything.” She said.
“I know!” I said “Rydel got pretty fired up about it, she started a yelling match with Jennifer in the living room and then Ross added into that.”
