Chapter 25: Ross's P.O.V-
I was sitting on the couch in Carter's old family cabin, just thinking about all of the things that had transpired today. The memory of Carter crying in Papa's truck flashed up in my head. Thinking about it again made me start seeing red. Jennifer had always had a crush on me (that much I knew) but to take he aggressions out on my girlfriend was completely OUT of the question. I walked into the kitchen and pulled a cup from the cabinet and got some water. I leaned my back against the counter and took a swig. I couldn't wait to see Carter later. I wanted to see her now! Just the fact that Carter had driven away from me crying broke my heart. I took my phone off the coffee table and dialed Carter's number. It only rang once and she picked it up.
"Hey babe," I said.
"Hi," Carter sniffed.
"Are you crying?" I asked, seeing red all over again.
"You're still at my old cabin right?" she asked.
"Yes," I said.
"I'm bringing some pizza, soda, and salad and we can eat there." she was sniffling.
"Baby, I'm sorry," I sighed.
"I'm fine," she was sobbing now "I'm in the drive,"
"I'm coming," I hung up the phone and ran out of the cabin.
She jumped out of the van and opened one of the back seat doors. I came up behind her.
"Hello, beautiful," I mumbled into her neck.
"Hi," she turned and started sobbing into my chest.
I held Carter's shaking body close and rubbed her back. I kissed her head and held her at arms length. I wiped her tear stained cheeks and kissed her creased forehead.
"I just need to be with you." she said.
"You got me; all day," I brought her back against my chest.
I took the bags from the back seat and walked back into the cabin. I put the food on the coffee table and sat her down on the couch.
"Could you start a fire?" she sniffed.
"You cold?" I asked.
"No i just think it's romantic to sit by the fire with you." she gave me a weak smile "And anyway dad still pays the bills for this place so there's central heat and air, electricity, water... the works." she said.
I opened the pizza box and put a piece on my plate and Carter's.
"You should eat," I said.
Carter opened her mouth as if asking me to feed her. I took the pizza into my hands and put it in her mouth. She took a bite of the pizza.
"You've got some sauce on your lip." I smiled.
"Hand me a napkin, please." she requested.
"I got it," I put my lips on her's and transfered the sauce from her lips to mine "All clean," I licked my lips.
"You always know how to make me feel better." she smiled and took the pizza from my hand.
"It's my job," I said.
"I'm glad... I'm trying to push the whole thing out of my mind but I can't." she sighed.
"Same here... I really just want to forget Jennifer's entire existence, but that's not working so well." I said, running my hand frustratedly through my hair.
