Chapter 9

Hillary tosses more than a flake into Wildfire's stall, I nip at her as she throws the second one in and she smacks my muzzle, Wildfire nips at her nose and she falls backwards. Haha. She runs back screaming and holding her nose like it was bleeding and screams.

"DAD! MOLLY'S HORSE BIT ME!" She screams frantically, she forgets to feed Fire and Bella, who are very hungry and are getting cranky.

"Little brat!" Fire stomps.

"How could she forget!?" Bella whinnies.

Steve comes out, tugging Hillary along with him and plants her in the middle of the barn.

" This is how you feed the horses." Steve explains to the girl with mascara running down her cheeks, as he drops one flake to the starving mares, they immediately drop their heads and dig in. I shake my head, trying to get the hay out of my face. Argo nudges my flank and starts to nurse, he is almost six months so sooner or later he would be weaned from me.

I've heard talk about selling my Argo, by Hillary of coarse. Steve turns to Hillary and says something that makes Wildfire and I choke on our hay.

" Hillary, just because Molly has gone back to college, doesn't mean you have to be mean to the horses." He says, he grabs Domino's halter and leads him to the cross ties, tacking him up.

Zoe emerges from the house with her baby in her arms, she kisses Domino's nose and let's him sniff the baby.

" How's our little Joseph doing today?" Steve says kissing the six month old baby.

" He's is great! I've made some more plans for the wedding." Zoe says stroking Joseph's head. They are getting married in three months.
Steve leads all the horses into the pasture, except Domino, it's his job today to work with the cows. Argo gallops in, bucking around, racing wildfire. He whinnies to me and trots over.

" Mommy, why do you have that mark across your belly?" He asks, tracing my scar with his nose.

" I got that from cole, he was a stable hand, like Jack or Arron or Thomas," I say, grabbing another mouthful of grass.

" He is gone now, don't worry, little one." I say, nuzzling him and he nuzzles back. Wildfire and I have become great friends again and we forgave each other when Argo was only four and a half months old. Steve canters Domino over to the cow pasture and chases the cows into the milking barn. Hillary walks over with my halter, and a little tan one.

She slips mine on and struggles to get Argo's on, he scrambles to get out of the halter.

"MOM! HELP!" He neighs as loud as he can, causing Wildfire, Bella and Fire to toss their heads up and canter away from us.

" It's okay Argo! Stay calm," I whinny to the trembling colt.

" WHAT IS IT?!" He screams.

" It's just a halter, it is harmless." I nuzzle him, he eventually calms down and accepts the halter. They have tried putting one on him before but he just kicked, reared, bucked and nipped.
She lead me into my stall, but leads Argo into Linco's old stall. He whinny's to me as Hillary walks away. I know what she's doing. Trying to wean him. I neigh out to anyone.

"Come back! Let me out!" I neigh, Hillary just looks back and sends us a evil, little smirk.

" Not today, sweetie." She keeps walking, chuckling to herself. I hear a clanging noise as soon as Hillary enters the house, and then after a moment of silence, there is a big smash!

We hear hooves clopping on the pavement and four body's; a fleabitten grey, a chestnut and a red chestnut.

Fire stands, blocking the doorway.

Bella trots over to Argo's stall and fiddles with his lock.

Wildfire unlocks my stall in one swift motion, backing away before I burst out to my scared and worried Foal.

Bella unlocks his stall and he trots out, I nuzzle him reassuringly, he lets out a happy sigh and we all walk out, heading to the pasture.
The gate is bent and crumpled in ways I've never seen it before, even when Loco, an aggressive bull, broke out of his pen and charged at Hilary's new mustang convertible, oh was she mad about that. The bull left it smashed and torn and was sent straight to the slaughter house, poor guy.

" This was Wildfires idea." Bella whispers to me, I nicker in amusement as we all trot to the furthest corner to graze.

" Mommy, why did she put as apart, I was scared, mommy!" Argo whinnies, nuzzling me. A gray truck rolls in the driveway, along the back windows there is a sticker and it says 'Western Nevada Rodeo Horse Training'.

" She was trying to wean you, she doesn't know how to wean foals from their mothers." I look up from grazing and watch a Steve greets the man with dark hair and points towards Argo and I. That's when he noticed the gate. He takes more than one look and gestures to the man to follow, they make their way to us and long the way, Steve tries to bend the gate back to place. No use in trying. The man walks up to Argo and tries to give him an apple, Argo refuses to take it.

" This little one hasn't been weaned yet, we have tried a couple of times, a few minutes ago, Hillary tried. That's why the gate is like that. Excuse it please, I will be right back." Steve says, running back to the barn. The man walks over and gives me the apple, he shoots his hand up and it spooks me, I toss my head but he calms me down as I crunch the sweet red apple. Steve comes running back, with my halter and Argo's tan one. He slips mine on, while the other man puts Argo's on, Steve leads me into the round pen, I assume Argo is following. I take a quick drink of water before I her a clang. The gate to the round pen is closed and Argo isn't in it with me. He neighs for me and I return it with a long, loud neigh. the others toss their heads and wildfire comes galloping to help, he jumps the bent metal gate earning himself a deep gash his shoulder along the sharp lock and squeals in pain. The dark haired man quickly loads my frightened colt into the trailer and slams the back closed.

I rear and neigh, scraping the wooden posts with my front hooves. I cant jump the fence, it is practically 8 feet tall. Steve ran and grabbed Wildfires halter when he broke out, he somehow got it on the raging stallion. He put Wildfire in his stall and returned to the dark haired man.

" Charlie, Thank you for taking him off our hands, he was quite a handful. I expect to see him on the circuit in a few years." Steve says loud enough for me to hear. Charlie and Steve shake hands after Steve hands Charlie something, and after that, he gets in his truck and starts it. Argo gives out a horrifying whinny.

" MOMMY! I LOVE YOU!" My heart beats at the speed of light.

" I LOVE YOU TOO!" I whinny back, the truck drives up the drive way, and then vanishes.
