Chapter 19
I wake up and begin to panic.'Where am I?! ', then I remember what happened. I pop my head over my stall door and nicker to any horse. Riptide nickers back and I notice that everyone has eaten their hay, so I eat my hay quickly. The girl who bought me is in English clothing and has my halter and lead in hand.
" Hey girl. Wait, you need a name." she thinks about naming me and then smiles.
" Gypsy!" she unlocks my stall, without thinking. Should I rear up like a normal wild horse or shy away? I make my decision and shy away to the back of my stall.
" Oh, right. Your wild." she turns away and walks back, pouting. I nudge her shoulder and she jumps forward. Her eyes wide and filled with excitement.
" You didn't bite me! But why wouldn't a wild horse bite me?" she questions to herself. She carefully steps forward but I just stand there, relaxed. I now notice her green eyes and her brown hair hidden behind a helmet. She lifts my halter up and does it up. I'm led into some crossties near the front of the stable and groomed. She grabs a saddle pad and slowly places it on my back, she swings up a black English saddle on my back and places the bridle on my head ever so quickly and barely forces the bit into my mouth. She sneaks past the house and into the indoor riding ring.
She grabs the step stool and places in beside me. The reins get put around my neck and she places a foot in a stirrup, testing me. I take on the pressure and stand still, she shakes her head and chuckles.
" What are you planning, Gypsy?" I snort impatiently and stamp my hoof. She swings on and braces for me to explode and gallop off. But I don't. I turn my head and see that her eyes are closed and she is holding on to the reins like its her life. I turn my head and face forward, waiting her to kick. I feel her relax and put pressure on my side, sending me into a trot. She posts and doesn't bounce up and down. She asks for a lope so I listen, quickening my pace. We go in circles and switch a few times before I am gently, pulled to a stop. She leans forward and pats my neck.
" Good girl, Gypsy! Good girl!" she praises. Someone comes running in and stops in their tracks, its Annie's father. She asks for a lope toward her father and I obediently lope. He stomps over and snatches my reins.
" You were told, young lady. To not ride this horse. She is a wild horse and doesn't know what it feels like. Now, what's your explanation?" he lets the reins go, so they aren't tense anymore.
" Didn't you see her?! Daddy, she was amazing! She listened and didn't take off like my last horse, Romeo. Its almost like she was once ridden. Oh, her name is Gypsy!" she cheerfully answers. He chuckles under his breath and pats my neck.
" Well, that's a wonderful name. Show me what you can do, so far." he orders. She turns me and pushes me into a gallop. We ride several times around before slowing to a lope and switching direction in a '8' pattern. He claps his hands and smiles. He brings out his phone and takes a picture of Annie and I. She rides me back to the stable, with people gasping and whispering when they see us. She untacks me and brushes me off, leads me to my stall and she gasps at a sign that is hanging on my stall door. It says; ' DANGER! Wild horse! Stay back!'. She grunts and leads me back into my stall. I'm unclipped from my hater and she brings the sign with her to her house. I have the rest of the day off, so I walks outside to my mini paddock and graze for the rest of the day.
-------------
I wake up and finish my hay before Annie comes to groom and tack me up. The sun is just rising over the mountains. We ride into the arena and do some laps. After, half an hour of riding she works on her trust with me. She successfully earned my trust and she is now riding me bareback. She is a bit rusty in it because she hasn't rode bareback since she was 11. When she turns me back to the stable, we take a trail into the forest. It has a nice river and little waterfall. She jumps off me and walks over to a couple rocks, she moves one reveling a backpack, sleeping bag and an extra bag. We hear thundering hoof beats and a boy with black hair and brown eyes jumps off Riptide. Riptide?! I trot over to him and nuzzle him, friendly like. The boy runs up to Annie and kisses her. She hands him the backpack, but he sets it down by the lake." So, if were going to do this... shouldn't we take one last swim?" he jumps in the lake and she runs in, almost jumping on him. That reminds me of when I had my first swim with Wildfire. I wonder where and how he is.
Wildfire's POV
They tease me by going to give me carrots, but then pull it away from my stall. I'm happy that Willow didn't stay because this place is literally horse hell. They give us immature riders and they treat us terribly. They yank on our mouths, they spur us with their sharp spurs almost stabbing us, they cinch up too tight and they feed us once every one to two days. Only when buyers come, they feed us nice, groom us and clean our stalls. I got switched to the back barn and there is a paddock, but its mud filled, no grass, and doesn't even have a clean water trough. I pace my stall and whinny, waiting for a reply. Nothing. I have tried to unlock my lock but they use a different lock than before. I have tried to jump the fence, but I ALWAYS get caught. But now, I have a plan.... I usually take the trail behind the other barns, but this time I am taking the road. I kick my stall door, it wont budge. I canter out into the muddy pasture and actually, jump the fence. I gallop past the barns and through the men trying to catch me. I eventually reach the road and keep galloping for miles on end.
Willows POV
They jump out of the lake and dry off. Riptide and I have been grazing for the last hour, filling our stomachs. Annie slips my bitless bridle on and the boy, named Liam, gently put Riptide's bridle on. They mount and we lope up to the road. We go a slow gallop when we reach a little opening in the side of the forest. They urge us in and we get tied up to some trees. Liam can trust Riptide, so he takes his halter off and swings it up on to his shoulder.
" Why don't you let Gypsy roam around without her halter?" she looks up at him.
" Because I don't want to loose such a perfect horse." I paw the ground, asking to go. She barely notices. Liam walks up to the road and disappears behind the wall of trees. Riptide stays close and Annie walks over, untying my lead from the tree.
" Lets see if Dakota will follow you." Dakota is their human name for Riptide. He follows me like a shadow and she chuckles. She slips my halter off and pats my neck,
" Maybe you and Dakota should have a foal in a few months when we get home." I shy away to Riptide and we both graze for several minutes. I her Liam coming back and Annie gasps. I jerk my head up and almost choke on my hay. He is leading Wildfire with Riptide's halter.
