Chapter 21
The pain grows in my hind leg. Wildfire nudges my hind to go faster, and that only means one thing. They are getting closer. I try to speed up to Riptide, but he is healthy, not bleeding and a natural born racer! I can see the bottom of the mountain, it edges closer every stride. The adrenaline pumps through my veins. Riptide suddenly disappears in the fog, but I still can hear his thundering hoof beats. They soon fade away and we reach the bottom of the mountain.
We gallop into a snow filled field, no trees. I pull myself to a halt, almost making Wildfire stampede into me. I swerve my body to the side and throw my head in the air. My nostrils quiver and flare, my lungs full with the cold and crisp air. There is a trail of red blood, standing out on the white snow. Not only can they see the trail, they can smell it. A sharp howl cuts through the silence. Out of the fog, emerges the five wolfs. The leader has a white coat, almost camouflage with the snow. My vision starts to blur, and I become dizzy. Wildfire thrusts his body in front of mine when I collapse to the ground, my leg buried in the powdery snow. It goes black, but I can still hear. Wildfire and the wolf talk.
" Stay away from my mare!" He snorts and stomps.
" Oh, don't you see her wound? She got knocked out," he snarls.
" Want a deal?" I hear him step forward.
" Depends." Wildfire breathes.
" We will finish off the mare and you will walk away safe. Or we could tear you both apart." Other wolfs howl in impatience.
" I won't let you set one filthy paw on her!" Wildfire's voice raises.
" Okay, but we will make it short and horrifying. Your welcome." He howls and I feel a jab of pain sent through my withers. I squeal in pain and Wildfire kicks it off. I blink open my eyes but everything is blurry. I struggle to get up and everything is now clear. Three dead wolfs lie around Wildfire, the leader and a dark grey one are the only ones left standing. The darker wolf howls and disappears in the fog. The white one stands his ground. Wildfire lunges at him and he yelps in pain. The gray one appears from out of nowhere and scrapes at my shoulder. Wildfire stops on the white one but turns to me, bites the wolf and throws him off. I charge at him and stomp until he doesn't move.
Wildfire turns back to the white wolf but he is limping away, whimpering with every step. Wildfire trots over and steps on his back. The wolf tries to bite but his head can't turn that way. Wildfire lowers his head down and whispers.
" This is for hurting Willow!" and puts all is weight on his hoof, and his back cracks. Wildfire walks towards me and I bury my face in his mane once again. I lift my head the slightest bit and find nobody except for Riptide. I lope over and he tries to hide in the snowy white bushes. I nip him in the barrel and he jumps to the side.
" Where did you go? Did you leave us to die out there?!" he shies a little.
" I thought you were following me! I was positive you were right beside me. I'm sorry!" he goes to nuzzle me but I walk away. I trot over toWildfire and he steps forward, pins his ears and bares his teeth. Riptide does the same and they both rise up on their hind legs, lashing out in the air. Riptide is the first to bite. Wildfire hits Riptide's shoulder, sending him back down on his four legs. Wildfire charges at him and Riptide kicks Wildfire's chest. I can't really do anything because, I watched a stallion fight a few years ago and it was not pretty. But I choose to try and stop the stallions. I bolt in between them and they immediately fall back down on their four legs and stop.
" Stop it you two!" I squeal. They both lower their heads and lie down, exhausted. I do the same and fall asleep. Dreaming of anything that comes to mind.

The snow wakes me up, by falling on my face. Another blizzard? No, just some snow. We paw up some grass and eat little bits of it. After an hour, we start to walk and walk. I notice white flashes beside me but ignore it. After two hours of it, I sneak off somehow and find the white flash. A pure white horse standing not so far in front of me. It turns and gallops off and it follow at a very fast pace. It jumps over logs and I do the same. Eventually, I loose it and find the stallions. They didn't even notice I was gone.
