The Perfect Day

Chapter 28
Wait...Chapter 28?! Last chapter?! Ahhhh!!!

Jassy and Argo gallop across the field, racing. When Jass crosses the line made of pawed up dirt, Argo rears up in frustration.

" Oh, come on! That's not fair! How do you gallop so fast?!" She squeals, happily.

" Well, I was born in captivity. My mother was a mustang and my father was a thoroughbred. That's where I get my speed from," she continues.

" But one day, my mother came back in her stall with some cuts and bruises. I later found out that someone had ridden her too hard and she was angry at them. We ran away out into the wild. Not many months later, she died in the winter." I start to talk.

" And then Wildfire and I joined the herd and Jass became my adopted daughter." Argo nods, looking somewhat confused. Sierra, Red, Lilly, Lace and Kona are all looking amused in a way. The sun shines through the trees and the river runs quietly. Its a perfect day. Chatters of horses near by, whisper through the wind. I walk forward somewhat and graze beside Kona.

An hour and a half later, I look up and scan the herd. I don't notice Jassy anywhere she would be and start to get worried. I toss my head and trot through the herd. Weaving side by side, dodging horses, I search for her.

Not two minutes later, I hear giggling from behind some raspberry bushes and I sneak around the end of the bushes. Standing there is Nico, Jass and Tallon, Lilly's smoky black colt, standing together. It seems that Nico and Tallon are in a fight against who Jassy likes better. Its not anything serious, its just light fighting. I walk around and Jassy shushes them, they both stop on command. She whispers to the colts and walks over with an innocent look.

" Hi, mom. What are you doing?" I snort.

" Oh, just taking a walk around," I sarcastically mutter.

" Jass, you shouldn't be alone with these two young stallions." she gives me a confused look.

" Mom, I'm fine. Nico and Tallon aren't causing any harm." Tallon buts in.

" That's right, Jass. Everything is fine, Willow." I push my way past Jassy and stomp up to the two.

" If you even set one hoof, no. Tooth on my Jassy, you will regret it like you've never regretted anything before." I snap at him. He backs away.

" S-sorry, Willow. I-I didn't mean any harm." I nod my head and walk away. But when I turn the corner, I hear Jass mutter.

" Don't mind her, she is just naturally grumpy." I snort loudly and stomp off to the river. When I finish drinking, Wildfire walks up to me and gives me an unexpected nuzzle.

" Willow, Jass is growing up and you don't always have to protect her. One day, when she grows up, she will have foals and you can't stop her." I start to stutter.

" B-but how do you know? W-were you eavesdropping? Who t-told you?" he nickers, amused.

" Willow. Since Nico was watching, Nico told Kona, Kona told Lilly and Lilly told me. Word sure travels fast! Plus, I wouldn't eavesdrop on my favourite mare." I nuzzle back.

" All of that is true except for the last sentence. I'm not your favorite mare, I saw you looking at Kona earlier." his jaw drops open.

" That is the most falsest thing I've ever heard. You were my favouritest mare since I met you."

" I hate to break it to you but 'favouritest' isn't a word." he tossed his head amusingly.

" Anyways, did you understand me on the last sentence?" Argo jumps out of nowhere and announces.

" Don't you get it mom? He was trying to say that he loves you." Wildfire nips the colt and turns back to me.

" W-what? But there were so many other mares that you could've chosen. Me? I'm just a boring, old, ugly..." he cuts me off.

" Beautiful, kind, sweet, protective, young, brave, smart, did I mention beautiful... jeez, I could go on forever." Argo nickers in amusement. He looks me deep in my eyes.

" Willow, its true. I love you. I've been holding it in since the day I met you." I'm overwhelmed with joy and nuzzle him, more than I've ever nuzzled him in my life. We turn back to graze and nicker in amusement. The whole entire herd has their eyes on us and is frozen. Jassy bursts out of the bush and races to us in record speed.

" MOM!? WILDFIRE!? I knew it!" and races off back into the bushes. We stand there, slightly confused. Jassy knew that he loved me? And well.. that I, uh. Kind of... loved him back? Argo follows her and He stays with the three. My mother trots over and congratulates us for some reason. Same with Red.

I bed down beside Wildfire that night. I now know that Jass likes the two colts she was hanging out with earlier, and Argo knew that for some time too. I really need to catch up on what is going on, once in a while! I shut my eyes and think about what happened today, especially the Wildfire part. I've always really liked him, but I never knew that he loved me back.

Today, it got even more perfect.
