Chapter 14
The afternoon had turned into the night when Cameron's friend decided to leave. They had watched basketball games all day and I was a bit relieved to see that his friend Logan and Kenzie liked the same team as me. The living room turned into a war torn area where we yelled profanities against our enemies. The evening was tolerable and a little enjoyable as well, thank god for our same love for sports.
But, I was tired from entertaining and putting on a smile when I just wanted to kick them out of the house. So, when Cameron came back from seeing them off I had closed my eyes and my head was hung from the couch.
"Tired?" He asked plopping down next to me.
"No, we could still go out." It was ten and I was exhausted but being with him would make that disappear.
He guiltily kissed my forehead and said, "Tomorrow, promise."
"Fine." I was a bit peeved at his unwanted friends and his lack of effort to send them away. But, I didn't mention it because he may have felt the same when he hung out with my friends.
"I'm gonna call it a night." He says standing up from the couch.
"Can't you stay up a little?"
"My back's hurting." I don't know why but I feel that he's always making some lame excuses. But then I scold myself thinking he must be having severe cramps.
"Okay... " I trail off not wanting to look at him. He goes to his bedroom and I sighed. There were a lot of unspoken words that were hanging in the air. He hadn't said his good night or an 'I love you' like he always did maybe because he noticed my cold demeanor. And I hadn't tried to justify my cold demeanor.
I absentmindedly turn on the tv and stare at whatever was coming for two hours. At midnight, I didn't feel like sleeping next to him, I preferred the couch tonight. Something pinched my heart and I ached to see him one last time before sleeping. It was a habit of me to sleep after talking to him or seeing him.
When I came to the door, I hoped to see him peacefully tucked in his bed, but instead I see him very much awake with earphones in. He was simply staring at the ceiling. "You didn't sleep?" I ask and he notices my presence taking one of his earphones out.
"No... I couldn't. I read a book. And now this... " He said with a small smile, shrugging towards his ipod.
I was silent, when he asked again, "You coming to bed?"
"Umm... Yeah." I couldn't walk away from him. He would sense something is off with me. I walk to the side of the bed and adopt a position same as him, leaning on the headrest.
He silently looks at me as if he was waiting for me to talk. I don't. He exhales loudly, throwing his earphones out. "Okay. What's up?"
"Nothing."
"Seriously, I know something's wrong with you? Just tell me." He gives me a half scared and half confused look.
"Seriously, nothing."
"Come on, you know can tell me anything."
"Everything's fine."
"I thought you trusted me... I tell you everything and you just won't share anything with me." I saw the frustrated despair that covered his eyes like he really believed I didn't trust him.
"No, I trust you. You know it."
He lifts his hands throwing them away in frustration. "Then, why don't you tell me anything. You did this in the kitchen. What's the point of a relationship when you can't share stuff with me?"
