Chapter 36

In the privacy of my dorm room the following night, I hurtled up in a blanket with my laptop. It was ten in the night and Ava and I had just had dinner and now she was busy jumping around other rooms socialising.

I was socialising too on Facebook. Well, more like stalking Cameron on Facebook. As soon my news feed opened up, there was a post from him of about an hour ago. He had taken a picture of his long legs stretched out on a sunny beach in his orange shorts. I hit the like button and went on to read the comments.

'Today was epic! The seagulls loved you! LOL!'

It was Kenzie's comment about probably an inside joke and I cringed. There were other bunch of comments calling him 'Sexy legs' and 'Mr. Orange Trunks'.

I scrolled down and there was another post from him. This time it was the wing of the plane he was in flying in the white clouds. The caption said- 'En route to San Francisco. Here we come, Spring Break 2016!'

I snorted distastefully at the picture and was about to scroll down when my phone rang beside me. I stared at the name and contemplated whether to pick it up or not. I didn't and threw it off on Ava's bed away from my reach.

I exhaled to calm my nerves, shut off the laptop and it stopped ringing. I looked over the tiny device far away and resisted the temptation as much as I could. But, then it started ringing again and I just couldn't control it.

"Oh fuck it." I muttered and launched myself to grab the phone.

"Hello?" Cameron's soft voice sounded a bit rushed and worried.

"Yeah, hi." I said, like it was an obligation to pick up the phone.

"Why weren't you picking up? I was worried." He did sound like he really was. But, I didn't let that steer me away.

"I was just... Umm... Talking to some guys..." Guys? Why the hell did I say that? I realized in my subconscious I wanted him to get jealous and take a plane back to LA.

"Guys?" He asked sounding more confused than jealous.

"Oh, yeah. You know just a couple of my hall mate's friends." It was so pathetic of me to lie but I couldn't control it.

"Okay. Glad you're having fun..." He dragged, unsure of what to say.

"Well, not as much as you. Care to tell me how did you end up in San Francisco so suddenly?"

"All my friends pretty much forced me here." He gave a little chuckle.

"That is so not you. Since when did you become so spontaneous?" I took a pause and continued, "Is it because of what happened between me and your mom?"

"No, of course not! I'd never run away from you."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"You aren't mad at me, are you?" I asked to ensure myself.

"Well, are you mad at me because I didn't tell you about San Francisco?"

"A little." I said, shutting my eyes. I hated to admit that I was mad at someone because then it showed that I cared for them.

"I'm sorry," He sincerely said. "I know we had plans to spend time together after my exams. I'm sorry, I ruined them. Damn it, why do I ruin everything for us?"
