chapter seven - june 23
it's been about a week and a half since alaska's last conversation with jack, and she was honestly on the edge on when their next would be. a couple seconds after she had let her walls come tumbling down - how stupid of her - she had to leave. her father was calling her constantly, and she couldn't bail on him another day. her father had been way off the deep end than he usually is, and she knew why too.
the day was coming up in a few weeks.
during these times, alaska didn't really blame him, because she wanted to forget everything too. the only reason she didn't was she actually wanted to get somewhere in life, just like alaska knew she would want for her. she didn't want to disappoint.
she hadn't seen jack since then, and it seemed as if their conversation about hanging out with each other had gone forgotten in his mind. she was a bit hurt by it, but - like usual - she couldn't tell herself that she didn't expect it. she had no idea what he was thinking, and it was driving her crazy.
little did she know that jack had been on the edge also about meeting her the entire time.
in the first time in forever, jack didn't know how to approach a girl. that night, they had both admitted something they never really expected to say out loud. honestly that terrified him even more.
he missed her and her presence, but after she had left abruptly, he didn't know what to think. he thought that she was just avoiding him, and he asked himself if he really wanted to provoke her again. that wasn't something he would want.
he wanted to be able to have a friendly conversation with her filled with laughs and smiles, and just maybe find the girl that was with him out on the dance floor, before he blew it all by being himself. he wanted to show her the best parts of him, before the ugly parts came out and ruined everything.
so now, here he was standing outside the diner - pathetically may i add - contemplating about whether he should go in or not. he nearly banged his head on the door at how stupid he was being.
his confidence was always the one thing that he loved about himself, and it was helpful that the girls loved it also. he wanted to just go in there, scoop her out, and give her the best time of her life. he wanted to see her smile again, because he honestly thought that it was the rarest thing he has ever laid eyes on.
by now, he knew he was way interested to her more than he ever was with any other girl, but he still didn't understand why. she was normal looking, but for some reason, he found her absolutely beautiful. she was shy, like most other girls, but he was drawn to that. the only thing unique about her was her hair, but its not like she was the only girl who dyed her hair.
people would describe this nervous feeling and his constant thoughts about her would be a dead give away that he liked her. that may be a possibility, but he didn't know, because he never experienced it before. all in all, he was just confused and unsure of where all of this would lead to.
before he even got a chance to man-up and open the door, he was surprised when alaska walked out instead.
alaska took a step back when she opened the door, shocked that jack was right there on front of her. "jack?"
"alaska!" he exclaimed lamely, because he didn't know what else to say.
the wrinkles on her forehead showed when she furrowed her eyebrows. "what are you doing here?"
"did you forget about what you told me?" he smirked, feeling his confidence slowly sink in again.
she only raised one eyebrow, wondering what he was going to say.
