chapter seventeen - july 15
alaska had her back to the door as she viewed the tray of food in her hands to make sure if she had everything before she went back out again. she nodded to herself as she concluded that she didn't seem to be missing anything. she pushed the door, walking out, and immediately bumping into someone.
"i'm so sorry," she rushed out. she looked up at who she had bumped into, and her worried state soon faded.
"hey love," jack smiled at her.
"i almost shat rainbows," she muttered.
"shat? rainbows?" he questioned, laughing to himself. "love, you're not english. it's shit."
she rolled her eyes. "well, i say shat."
"and rainbows? really?" he laughed again. she just cowered away, starting to feel embarrassed from his constant laughter. "you're way too innocent." after a few seconds or so, he started to realize awkward stance of discomfort. "but that's not a bad thing," he reassured her, giving her a light peck on the cheek.
she blushed, and pushed him away. "go away. i have to go do my job."
"well, hurry up, because after that, we're leaving," he informed her.
she looked at the clock near her boss' office. "what? i only have an hour left!" she exclaimed.
"jack and scarlette invited us to go on a double date with them, and scarlette wants to go shopping with your for an outfit."
she stood there, a bit shocked at what he just told her. he just basically told her that they were going to go on a date. it didn't really matter if there would be other people there with them, because she was still going to be nervous. she never really went on dates, and when she did, it'd end up as a crappy one she never wanted it to remember. she would always enter the date happy as hell that a guy noticed her and liked her, and she left knowing she was just a joke or another number to the guy. she didn't want that to be the case with jack. she liked him way to much to experience heartbreak this early on.
he noticed that she was looking everywhere else but at him, and over the time he spent with her, he picked up that she did that usually when she was nervous about something. "hey," he said softly, placing his hand on her shoulder, "you don't need to be nervous. i'm sure they both like you already."
she smiled at him, thinking how cute he was, trying to comfort her. however, that wasn't the reason she was nervous at all. "that's great," she mumbled.
despite her words, jack knew that she was still nervous. he wracked his brain trying to come up with why, but he was left clueless. "what is it?" he decided to ask in the end.
"it's nothing," she said.
he sighed, slightly frustrated. he knew there was something wrong, but he also knew she wouldn't tell him. she never wanted to worry him, but she didn't know that by not telling him, he'd worry even more, coming up with the worse assumptions. "love.."
she sighed, defeated. "it's just that - it's going to be our first date."
he looked at her with slightly enlarged eyes. "that's what you're worried about?" he questioned in disbelief. her gaze was still cast downwards. "love, it's nothing to be nervous about. it's not like we've never hung out before. we see each other like every single day."
she finally looked up at him. she pursed her lips. "guys usually leave me after the first date after finding out how boring i am." she bit on her lip as her thumb started to move slightly from left to right on the tray. "i don't know if you're aware, but i kind off, like really, really like you," she whispered the last part. as soon as it came out of her mouth, she wondered why she confessed to him in the first place.
