chapter thirteen - july 6
"i can't believe you dragged me here when i have work in like an hour," alaska complained to jack.
he stopped and whipped his head around to look at alaska. "it doesn't matter. i always got you covered, remember?"
oh, she did remember, and she hated it. "i don't want to always rely on you for things, simple things i could do for myself," she said, exasperated.
"love, i have plenty of money to spare, and spending only a little ounce of it for that boss of yours to guarantee you some free time won't have any dent to it."
"but i-"
"i want to spend my money on you, okay? just let me please," he said softly. his sentence caused for a silence to whoosh past them. he had only realized the affects of his words after he said it, leaving him messed up in his own sayings, wondering why in god's name he had said it in the first place.
he was never the type to throw around his money like that. he despised woman who were gold diggers that were only after him, only because they were keen on getting his money. if he were to find a woman he wanted to indulge in a relationship with, he'd be hell pissed if it weren't for the right reasons. another reason why he damned love as stupid.
alaska was just as shocked as he was, because she knew that very fact. she was an observer - as mentioned many times before - and although he wasn't a scumbag that threw his flings around like some trash, he never offered to buy them something super expensive. he'd offer to buy them food here and there and little things, because he wasn't a complete jerk. never did he once offer to buy them jewelry or another over a hundred dollars. everyone knew commitment came with that, and everyone also knew he wasn't that type of guy. and here was the same guy spending a couple hundred at least to expand the restaurant she worked at to persuade her boss to go easier on her.
he cleared his throat and said, "i'm carrying you on my back, doing all the walking, so please just be grateful." he chuckled at her little pout - something he found completely adorable. "i promise you'll have fun."
she suddenly felt her head start to ache, but ignored it. she didn't want to ruin jack's fun. "and if i don't?" she challenged instead, earning a smile from him. this was the side of her he liked seeing; the out-going, carefree, joyful alaska. he noticed over the times she spent with him that she had slowly revealed her real self to him, burying away all the shyness she had kept up front to keep her lovable personality hidden. he was happy that he had gotten it out of her, because everyone deserved a glimpse at the beauty she had.
"i'll carry you as punishment," he joked along with her, earning a smack in the arm from alaska. he heard mumbled something along the lines of 'not funny,' and laughed. "only joking love. i love carrying you around," he said, oddly enough, speaking the truth.
he turned his head to look straight again, and saw his group of friends in a clump. he walked over to them, holding onto alaska as he did. once he got there, he settled her down, earning the attention of his friends.
"about time you got here," scarlette teased, leaning her head against his best friend's chest. he nearly gagged at the two for being so affectionate, and the thought of his best friend actually settling down with a girl still wondered him. looking at him though, with his eyes trained at his girlfriend, staring at her as if she was his world, he knew this wasn't one of those cases where love turned out to be something stupid. their love was beautiful, and he did hope for that one day. not one day soon though.
alaska smiled at the girl she's met on one occasion or so. she hadn't talked to her a lot, but she knew she liked her from the very first time they met. she holds this confidence - the air is surrounded by it - and it's a wonderful sight. something she wished she possessed.
