chapter nine - june 28

"you know you can just leave," alaska told jack when she stopped by at the table he was sitting at on her way to grab a customer's order from chad. "you don't have to wait for me."

jack looked up from his phone. "i don't mind." she threw him a questioning look, and he sighed, answering truthfully. "babe, it's alright. i want to wait for you."

she couldn't help the blush rising on her cheeks, and she ducked her head in an attempt to hide it. jack laughed at her embarrassed state and placed a finger on her chin to lift her head up. "how many times do i have to tell you that you don't need to hide your adorable face from me?" he questioned her with a slight teasing tone.

she rolled her eyes, trying to play off like he didn't have an effect on her, but they both knew she was only lying to herself. a faint smile appeared on her face, as it did on jack's. "i'm getting back to work," she told him, before abruptly leaving.

"hey chad," she greeted the brunette-haired boy. "are the orders ready?"

"in a minute," he called out. his voice sounded like it was from a distant, but his face appeared next to hers a few moments later. "what's up with you and lover-boy over there?" he asked, excited as he wanted to know the answer to this question weeks ago. chad was always the romantic type of guy, and literally craved for that kind of stuff. he eyed the blonde boy from behind his station, and he couldn't even deny that he was attractive.

alaska looked behind her to pinpoint where he was looking at, and when she realized that he was staring right at jack, she immediately whipped her head back at chad. "what are you talking about?"

chad dramatically rolled his eyes. "you and that guy," he said, pointing at jack with his forefinger. "what's up with y'all?"

"what do you mean what's up?" she questioned. "nothing's up."

chad resisted the urge to roll his eyes again. "you're lying," he bluntly stated.

"i don't know what you're trying to get at-"

"look, he's been here every single day since the day he came here and saw you. he was a regular at this place, but he never came here every day and just stayed here for five hours. why is he doing it now?"

she shrugged nonchalantly, staring at her on hair. "how am i supposed to know?"

chad raised one of his eyebrows. "oh you know all right."

alaska sighed heavily. "nothing's happening, and i don't think something's ever going to happen."

"but what you're saying here is that you want something to happen, right?" he asked with amusement clear in his voice. "i always shipped you guys."

she furrowed her eyebrow, and stared at the strange boy. "shipped? what the heck is shipped?"

"when someone ship two people together, that means they want them to get together, so please get together already."

"chad," she sighed exasperated, because she didn't want him to push this subject. she didn't want to think about how jack didn't even want a relationship with her. she got herself in the friend zone, and even though she said she was fine with it, being reminded of the fact, didn't appeal to her. "that's not going to happen?"

"why not?" he asked with furrowed eyebrows. "you guys are adorable together," he gushed.

"he doesn't want anything to happen between us."
