chapter eight - june 26
"so what have you been up to these past weeks?" jack gilinsky asked as he laid out on the couch, with his arm rested out before him. he was bored out of his mind, and anyone could tell from his posture, but jack johnson was too occupied to even think about it. poor gilinsky just wanted to hang out with his friend and have some fun, but it seemed like johnson wasn't mentally here.
"you know, here and there," he answered distractedly, his attention on his phone. as pathetic as it might sound, he was waiting for alaska to text him so he could see her again. for some odd reason, she didn't like it whenever he texted her first.
gilinsky raised an eyebrow at his vague answer. his lips twitched up in an amused grin. "here and there with alaska?"
johnson's turned his attention towards his best friend. "how'd you know?"
"i knew it. you're fucking whipped!" jack laughed, bemused seeing his friend like this. it was weird, because he wasn't used to this. he knew jack thought love wasn't worth it now, and honestly though he was going to put up all committed relationships until he was like thirty or something.
"i'm not whipped," johnson said, annoyed, and rolling his eyes to prove that.
he cared for her alright, but it wasn't like he was going to be those cliche boyfriends in those movies or shows or stories that every girl seemed to want. he won't shower her with gifts, and necessarily sacrifice his fun to be with her. a part of him wanted to give her the world, but he wasn't ready to get that attached to her quite yet.
he was still his own person, and he wasn't going to let anyone - a girl for that matter - control his life.
gilinsky groaned as he sat up straighter to talk to johnson. "just admit it, dude. you actually have feelings for a girl. that's no big deal."
"no, that's impossible," johnson denied having a hard time taking it all in, shaking his head. "she's cute and beautiful and all, but it's not like that. there's just something about her that pulls me in, and makes me want to know her better. she's different from anyone i've ever met. she's dealt with a lot, and i'm just helping her get over it. a girl like her needs that in her life."
gilinsky rolled his eyes. "just by the way you're talking about her, it's completely obvious there's something in your heart that urges for her."
"yea, but it's just because i've never been around anyone like her and she's intriguing like that. i guess i'm just curious," he decided to go with the half-truth, full on knowing there was much more to it than that.
"stop being in denial. you like her. you like being around her, picking her up from her feet, and protecting her. you would've left if it were any other girl, but you stayed with her and you didn't even get in her pants yet."
"you make me sound like i'm some manwhore that doesn't give a crap about girls. you know that's not true. they come to me." jack couldn't believe that gilinsky was possibly accusing him of such of thing. he was disgusted, and he knew alaska would be too. he didn't want her to think he was those types of guys. he held more respect than that.
"yea, yea, whatever, but i'm surprised that you didn't even try a move on her. i mean she's hot with that firm ass-"
johnson glared at gilinsky, because something about what he said sounded off. he knew alaska wouldn't like him talking about her like she was just some girl toy. a there was something else stirring in the middle of his stomach. could it be-
gilinsky laughed at johnson's expression. "see? you're jealous. you were never jealous with any other girl, because they meant nothing to you, but this girl means something to you."
