chapter thirty - july 9

For the past week, she could feel Jack distancing himself. She didn't know why, but she could feel his kisses become more quick with a lack of emotion. She could feel how he didn't care as much as he had in the beginning of the relationship. She could feel him slipping away, and she was stuck thinking about how they even got there in the first place.

For the first time in forever, she actually went to work. She couldn't sit in his house while he was ignoring her. She felt unease - which was weird - because she never felt anything but content around him. The truth was, the silence was too much for her to handle.

The first thing she saw when she walked into the dainty diner surprised her for sure. There Chad was, lip locking with an unknown male. She gasped slightly from the shock factor of it all.

They pulled away, both with a smile. Chad turned his head towards the door, and his eyes widened for a tiny second at the sight of her. "I was beginning to think you forgot about me," he smirked.

"I was just - you know," she stuttered, trying to explain it to him. She didn't even know what to tell him. She knew her life basically revolved around Jack, but she didn't know exactly how much she had spent her time with him. They've barely been apart.

"I know. You're with him," he waved her off. "I get it." She saw him whisper something to the guy, before the guy smiled at him, nodded, and walked away to sit at one of the tables. He then went back to his work place. "Considering you're back, I'm guessing there's trouble in paradise."

She sighed, and went back there with him to help out. She started to clean the dusty table with a towel left hanging on the side. "I don't know. Whatever. It doesn't matter. Tell me about you and your love life," she brushed it off with a slight smirk pointed at Chad.

"Look, missy, don't think you can just avoid the subject like that," he scorned her with a playful tone. "Although, my love life is going great, but I'll spare you with the details. Wouldn't want to boast about my happy relationship while you're sad."

She rolled her eyes. "Stop spouting nonsense. It's okay. You always talk to me about my life, now it's your turn," she insisted.

"Spouting?" he questioned, giving her a look. "Who even says that? Am I some flower?"

She discarded of the towel in the sink behind Chad, and went to lean her back against the counter to face him. "Are you going to tell me about your new boyfriend or not?"

"When did you get so sassy?" he asked with a bit of shock in his voice. "But anyways, we met," he put his hands up, "which wasn't even a fun story so I won't even elaborate. I thought he was straight, and he thought I was straight. We were both bummed out, until we saw each other at a gay club. We talked, got drunk, slept together, and are now dating."

"Wow," she stated after he was done telling his story. "That's quite interesting."

"Yeah, pretty boring. Nothing entertaining like your relationship with Jack. Now please tell Chad what's wrong," he pleaded, worried for his friend.

She sighed, giving in. She didn't want to be reminded of this, when she went to the diner to avoid him in the first place. But she realized she needed someone to talk to. And she had missed Chad. "One moment things were great, and the next, it wasn't. I think he's pulling away."

He was about to speak when he was interrupted by someone coming through the door with great force. They both turned to look at whoever it was, and a slow smile started forming on his face.
