Start of Fifth Year

Andy's POV

So the rest of summer was a little eventful. Aside from all the cleaning we had to do at Grimmauld Place. Aka, Head Quarters. Harry was attacked by dementors. No idea why they weren't guarding Azkaban. We think maybe Voldemort, but it seems unlikely as Dumbledore doesn't believe he has contacted them yet. But who else would send dementors after Harry? Because I doubt the ministry has fallen that far.

Harry was brought to HQ by a guard. They all arrived safely and had another meeting. This time Snape was there. Sadly we couldn't eavesdrop. Harry was not happy when he learned that we had all been here together. While he was stuck in Privet Drive with no news. No idea what was going on. We actually got some answers. Apparently Voldemort is after some sort of weapon, something he didn't have last time. He is also gathering supporters in secret, which we already knew.

Harry's trail went well. He was cleared of all charges. Though some of the Wizengamot didn't want to clear him. But thanks to an eye witness. That proves he used magic in a life or death situation. Due to dementors being present. The majority saw that no crime had been committed. Though he was warned no to us magic outside school until he is of age.

I did hear from Charlie more. I enjoyed reading his letters. About places he has visited. Even though he has his job to do and his work for the order. He still found time to do fun things. Like when he went to the Chinese dragon reserve, to try spread word of Voldemort's return. He went to see the Great Wall of China. I am so jealous he is getting to see the world. He promised to take me on a tour of the world when I graduate. I can't wait.

Hermione and Ron were made prefects. Ron got a broom as a gift from his mum for becoming prefect. I heard from mum, Draco had been made a prefect also. I sent her one back, saying congrats to Draco. But that I had not gotten the badge for gryffindor.

On the train ride to school. Harry, Ginny and I. Sat with Luna Lovegood and Neville. Luna is a ravenclaw in Ginny's year. Her dad is apparently editor of the Quibbler. I asked if she could get me a subscription. Merlin knows I could use some entertainment. Especially, after I read the article they did on Sirius.

We arrived at school safely and the first years were sorted. After the sorting hat's new song. Which talked about all houses banding together to fight a common foe. But judging by the others reactions. I don't think that will be happening between Slytherin and the rest of the school anytime soon.

Dumbledore introduce Professor Grubbly-plank, who will be substituting for Hagrid. Until he returns. Then introduced our new defense teacher. Professor Umbridge. Why in the name of Merlin she is here? I have no idea. But then when Dumbledore went to tell us about quidditch tryouts. She interrupted and stood to address us all.

"Thank you, headmaster, for those kind words of welcome. And how lovely to see all your bright faces smiling up at me. I'm sure we're all are going to be very good friends" she states. I roll my eyes, not likely, I think to myself. "The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. Although each headmaster has brought something new to this historic school, progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what can be preserved, perfect what can be perfected, and prune practices that ought to be prohibited" she ends with a giggle.

"Thank you very much, Professor Umbridge, that was most illuminating" Dumbledore say as Umbridge returns to her seat. He continues on with his start of term speech.

"Yes, it certainly was illuminating" Hermione agrees.

"I'd say enlightening" I state.

"You two are not telling me you enjoyed it?" Ron asks us shocked. "That was about the dullest speech I've ever heard, and I grew up with Percy" he states.

"I said enlightening, not enjoyable" I drawl.

"It explained a lot" Hermione adds.

"Did it?" Harry asks us. "Sounded like a load of waffle to me" he states.

"There was some important stuff hidden in the waffle" Hermione tells him.

"Essentially, the Ministry of Magic is trying to interfere at Hogwarts and I doubt it ends with Umbridge being a professor. We'd all better watch out" I explain. When the feast ends and Hermione leads the first years away with Ron. Harry left before me. As I was just finishing my dessert. I walked back to Gryffindor tower with Neville, who actually knows the new password and remembered it. It's Mimbulus mimbletonia, the name of the new plant he got for his birthday from his uncle.

I decided to have an early night. I got ready for bed and said goodnight to Hermione as she appeared. Before going to bed. Falling into a dreamless sleep.
