By the beginning of 1970, US President Richard Milhous Nixon had had a headache. Vietnam. And, in his First Term, he decided: "I am going to China", and by 1972, he went to the Asian country. After a historic meeting with Zhou Enlai, (5 March 1898 – 8 January 1976), the first Premier of the People's Republic of China; and Chairman Mao, (December 26, 1893 – September 9, 1976), (Mao Zedong), all contributed to discuss Communism, Vietnam, and The Korean War, and human rights in Geneva, (1954), and other matters that affected the World.
With his wife, Pat, and Henry (Alfred) Kissinger, (who wore his famous dark glasses), (Heinz Alfred Kissinger), (May 27, 1923-), they placated the East's anger over lunches, dinner, and meetings behind closed doors. Kissinger, Nixon's "National Security Advisor", (NSA), would become the Secretary of State under President Gerald Ford.
"Communism has been bad for us because of Senator McCarthy's ranting in the US Senate when he 'named names' in 1957. Hell, was there any proof that people showed Anti-American views? As for Vietnam, we came to help the South Vietnamese because we do what is needed. The War has been started in '55 and looks like going on until '75. That's two decades. Our boys have died...And it's time to pull out", Kissinger said.
"I understand. We have suffered. China has a interest in Vietnam. Besides, this War is tricky...yes", Chairman Mao said. They all sat down in a plush "Meeting Room" in Beijing.
"Hopefully, with this new relationship...we can have a better view of things. The East and West shall come together...as one", US President Richard Milhous Nixon said, as he smiled. But, as he celebrated, a political storm was brewing in America.
And it had had a name: Watergate.
