June 2021

Four days later, Calum was leaving for 5SOS' last and final tour as a band. Ella and I had to drive in a separate car than the boys to the airport. We were also a few minutes behind them so the crowd could thin out a bit for us.

The drive for us was silent. I was caught up in my thoughts and Ella's boyfriend was leaving once again. I wouldn't see Calum for nine months, I wanted to make this count in some way.

But when we do drive up to the airport, there's a massive mob of girls (and the occasional guys) waiting outside. Over the years, the crowd grew, and grew, and grew. 5 Seconds of Summer, Ella, and I have truly been outstanding musicians with the crowds we could pull off and the music we could play. It was phenomenal.

But then the ten security guards pushed the mob farther back so leave a path for me and Ella. Our two personal guards got out of the car and opened the door. The crowd screamed loudly, then started shouting and yelling our names to try and get pictures and autographs.

Ella got out of the car before me since she was on the right side and I climbed out behind her. She went to the left side and I went to the right.

I put on a smile for the fans, took a few pictures and signed a few autographs, made a few personal videos, followed some people on Twitter and finally the security told us it was time to go. The mob continued as security led us towards airport security. We still had to go through security even though we weren't boarding, but we got to cut the line. The boys were already done and I could see them being led away towards the boarding area.

"Flight 14B to Japan, boarding is starting," Said a woman over the loud speaker that boomed through the airport. Our two security guards now led us down the area the other boys went. A pit formed in my stomach. I thought a million times over what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it, but I forgot everything. I only have this chance, otherwise I'll feel like I screwed everything up.

"You okay?" Ella questions me as we briskly walk past everyone.

"Not really," I admit with a shrug, "Are you okay?"

"It's part of the business," She returns a shrug, "It's part of the package."

Living out of suitcases and planes and singing until your throat was raw was part of the business— The worst part in my opinion.

"Hey," Ella says with the smile, "You always figure out a solution to the problem. Don't stress much."

I give a faint smile back, not only to hide emotions, but because I believed her. Ella had to be right- She was always right. Just like I always got over every single bump in the world.

There they were, waiting in the boarding area. No body noticed them, because in the boarding area they weren't celebrities, they were just passengers. Human beings.

Michael was the first to notice me. He parted his lips, shook his head, and I knew it was a silent expression of "Good luck". He then taps Calum on the shoulder and points towards me.

Calum's eyes become soft the moment they look at me.

You can do this, I take in a deep breath, Ella's right, you always figure something out. Calum's had his chance to say his feelings, now its my turn.

Calum's now walking towards me. His lips are pursed, and he casually looks around every few seconds instead of keeping eye contact.

I open my mouth to say something along the lines of "I'll miss you", but Calum hushes me.
