Two Groups

Chapter 3

It was early in the morning, people have not started to wake up in the Spanish towns. But in the Yucayeque where Zaccheaus was. Everyone but the Cacique was awake. Luciana have left the Bohio and started to Head towards the place. She went with the women and they all headed to find some food to gather. While the men hunted, Luciana had a lot of stuff in her mind but most importantly was how she accepted the offer of Zaccheaus. She had woken up to him hugging her. She was thinking, while gathering some Maize. She turned around to see, three spanish soldiers grabs her and leaves. She was captured, they took off in a hurry. Zaccheaus have woken up, and he started to get up, but during the time he was just thinking that happened a month earlier .

        Another mes ( month ) has passed from the incident, Luciana had stayed with me for a month. I always awake to see her happy, but this time she was not happy. I did not see her, did she left? I have became a better cacique and Guazabara to my Ara' in my Yucayeque. I have finished praying to my gods, I hear yelling it's one of the Warriors, I have that works with me. "It's a message" I look it was a formal letter. It had Guami'ken signature and ensignia.
      I grabbed the letter it was directed to  Luciana, it said she had three days to pick her suitor. I then see it has a note in the side, it says that she was captured and taken back to the town. I look at the Guazabara " I'm going back to Caparra."
     The Guazabara looked at me with fear then he swallowed. He brought out his knife , I then refused. He puts it down, puts it back into his sheathe and said " Taino-ti, Teitoca de Guami'ken  li. ( May the good great spirit be with you, stay away from him the Spanish lord)
   I thanked him and left the Yucayeque . It took me an hour to reach Caparra. I was in a hurry to reach Luciana, I was stopped by the Spaniards they did not appreciate what I was wearing. I spoke in their tongue, they let me pass. Thanks to Luciana I pass with ease. I see the manor, I run and reached there.
    I reached and climbed to the window of Luciana's room. She was dressing into her cloths , I turned around to not look like a peeping Tom and she saw me but she did not scream.
      " Porque estais aqui?" She looked at me sadly, I entered the room, I walked to her, and she did not smiled. She was quiet, I looked at my Nanichi. She was not happy.  I did not like that
    I told her to make her happy " Para Robaste a ti ( because to steal you ) " she then turned around to leave the room I grabbed her arm.
    She turned and I said to her " Tu eres Mi amor de mi vida. ( you are the love of my life) " She shook her head. She looked down, she crossed her hands .Then she started to cry.
    It took her what seems liked an hour. She said " Perdón, ( sorry ) but I cannot be with you." I looked she started to lie, I known her for years. I know when she is lying. I grab her and kept telling her to stop then she kept insisting then I snapped.
    I said " your saying it's because I'm Indio a savage considered by your people?!" I looked at her mad. I cannot believe what she is doing.
    She then said " also our family's are connected." She kept looking down,
      " We are not of the same blood it's completely normal." I brought her for an embrace and she stayed quiet. Then she looked up, I kissed her. She returned the hug. We stayed there. It seemed like an hour, I feel good. Then I hear something
    I heard the door open, it was her father with his gun. He cocked his gun and he yelled "Mija vos estais embrujao! ( my daughter you are bewitched!)" Then I let go of Luciana I sprint for the window and jumped out.
    I yelled " Guarico a Ausubu! ( come to the Ausubu tree!" Then I kept running from the Guami'ken, he fires a shot. I keep sprinting, It was nightfall when I stopped running. I found the nearest tree, I climbed it and I slept.

     It was dawn, the roosters began to squeal in the morning. The Towns folks began to come out of the houses to work, or either began to trade at the mart. Zaccheaus asleep, oblivious of who is watching him. The Man watches Zaccheaus, he stands with a nice collared striped shirt, with a straw hat. Wearing long pants. he then sits down and takes out a food and began to cook there.
      I'm awoke, I see a Jiabro ( farmer) cooking some food. My stomach aches, he turns and says " Despertajte amigo, ( you woken up friend) let's eat" I hear him talk in his tongue Spanish to me but it's really improper, to my surprise he knows some of my tongue.
      "¿ Que ej tu nombre?( what's your name?)" he asked me, I looked at him. He was friendly, he then gaved me his food. I accepted it and ate, I look at him
      I tell him " My name is Zaccheaus, Guaitiao ( Freind ) . What is yours?" He looks and smiles, takes a bite on the food he cooked.
      He finishes, he says " my name is Macho." Then he saluted and left. Heh I made a cool friend.
     I head to Luciana's house, as I walked there I just think of Luciana. She is being forced, by someone not to come with me. I can see it in her eyes. I have to find out who.
       I see her house, as I get closer, I see Luciana  holding hands with some Guami'ken I don't even know. I decide to run over there, I reached there. Luciana Stops me, and I say " What happened?"
    She looked at me sadly and said " Yo Cogo a este ( I pick him )" . She looked even more sad when she said it . I look to see him smiling evilly . I tell Luciana if we could talk in alone for a while.
     She looked at the Guami'ken, then we left to the Ausubu, as we walked. Luciana got closer to me. Like before, I tell her " What happened I feel like your being forced to be with him?"
     She told me to be quiet, I look back we were being followed, not by the Guami'ken but by a grunt of his.
     We looked at each other then nodded at each other. We both ran to the Ausubu, no one goes there besides us. We ran bumping into people in the crowds
       I hear from my side " Indio que no sabe Los reglas (  Indian that does not know the rules!) I kept running. I see the Ausubu tree, we had to past the bushes leading to the Ausubu. As we pass the bushes I turn to see Macho hiding behind the bushes. He holding a stick, as the man passes the bushes. Macho smacks him behind he head.
        He falls unconsciously, I look at Luciana and she shrugs. Then I wave Macho to come over here.

  We all talk......

     It was evening and we were still talking, Macho decided it was best for us to leave town and headed back to the Yucayeque with him.
    " You know where is my Yucayeque?" I asked him, he nodded. He walked ahead, it was going to be the night. I look at Luciana, she looks at me and blushes. Then she turns away, I grab her hand. We start walking together, I asked " Were you forced to accept his offer?"
     She looked at me and nodded, we continued to walk, we were all about thirty minutes back to the Yucayeque.
     We ended up staying for the night, it was too dangerous to keep moving while being sleepy, we needed rest. So Macho and I made a fire, then we huddled around it.
      Macho asked " Can I play my music? To yall?" He stood there, obviously taking something he has hidden on his back in a sack.
     We looked, I asked " ¿Que Eso? ( what's that)
He looked at me as if I did not knew anything. Then he laugh, pulled out a guitar with four strings.
      " This is the cuatro." He began saying, then he started to play. We just listened and we have fell asleep.

We awake, then head to the Yucayeque, as we entered the Yucayeque the Nabori comes to me wanting to have a feast for our return, I do not refuse and we start having a feast.
       In the feast I see the Ara'quaca' ( dance )I eat in slience, next to my Nanichi. As the long day pass of the feast we all head to sleep.
    It's the morning I get up after eating to hear gunshots. I went into the Bohio, I grab my knife. I run out, to see my people falling to the ground. I run to the fight I managed to pick three of them out, by cutting one straight from the back of his throat, the other one by striking his chest, and lastly by cutting his back injecting poison. They all fell to the ground.
   After that,  all of the remaining Spaniards points their guns at me. I see it's the guy who is the suitor of Luciana. He looks furious, his yellowish brown hair waving while walking to me.
     Usted I'm going to kill you!" He said then dropped the pistol, he pulled out his sword. He then speak slowly " You savage touched and corrupted my fiancé" he then ran towards me.
         I prayed to every gods I knew waiting for a miracle that Luciana is safe, then I hear shouts, it was Oromico and his Guazabara fighting and taking the spanish out one by one.
     I fought the Guami'ken marrying Luciana.  He started to run again. He started to strike in an attack I deflect his blows, me being on the offensive and starts stabbing him. He starts to rebound from the hits.
     He then pulls for another gun he had behind, I grab the gun and shoot, he flinches and drops the other  gun, but I threw my knife, at him. It's over for him. His body becomes motionless and he drops dead.
I look around desperately trying to find Luciana, she must be hiding in the Bohio after I left. I went inside to see all the women hiding inside
I come and say " Da Ara ( my people )'" they all start talking in relief what had happen, I come in to look for Luciana and she is there comforting the Children of the Tribe. Everyone leaves and Luciana stays
I come, and embrace her, she embraces me back. Then I told her " Todo se termino con usted ( all have finished with you)." She then smiled.
I asked her if she wanted to become a Nabori, and it took her about a half hour to figure out.
Then she looked at me, with a smile on her eyes, she agreed she told me " I want to do everything what your tribe does, even how we dress. I look and I smile.
