Hayden had spent a lot of time thinking about it. It was like a fairy tale or something like that. She had gone from hating Liam to being his girlfriend. She didn't understand it at first, and she didn't let it bother her. At the time, it was like she was on could 9.
Turns out that when you fall off could 9, it hurts when reality hits you.
She wasn't in love with Liam. She only thought that. She had thought because he had saved her and helped her. She didn't understand why something as simple as that would make her think she was 'in love' with him. She was glad she figured it out.
She only figured it out though because she had caught herself staring at one of the other lacrosse players. She felt awful at first, but then realized that she wouldn't be looking at other guys if she was really in love. She didn't feel too bad after that.
The problem she faced was Liam himself. She hated him before but now that they were boyfriend-girlfriend, she figured they were okay. She felt towards him more of a friends connection, sort of. She had no idea how he really felt though. She didn't know if he was under the same spell she was.
So when it came time for her to finally face the music, she couldn't for some reason. She realized what that reason was later that day. It was the fact that Liam really did like her, maybe even truly love her. She felt it in the kiss they shared that morning.
She knew after that that she had to tell him. She couldn't let it go on any further. Especially sense she started to the cute lacrosse player she started having eyes for. She didn't want to be the girl who cheated on her boyfriend, even if she didn't have feelings for that boyfriend.
She approached Liam after soccer practice, having taken a deep breath before reaching him. She had gone over what she wanted to say the night before. She had also gone over all the other things that she could say considering what he could say.
"Liam." She said, holding one arm in her opposite hand. She looked at him, thinking to herself that she had to do it or else everything after that moment would go downhill.
"Hey Hayden." Liam said, going in for a kiss but she put her hands up to block him. She shook her head and watched as he gave her perplexed about her actions. "Is something wrong?"
Yeah, but it totally isn't you." She said, biting her lip. She knew that was the line most girls used when it was the boy that was the problem. "And I mean it, it really is me."
"Well what is it?" He asked. She felt bad already. She felt like this was considered leading him on. She did not want to be one of those girls; the ones that mess around with everyone. She was just glad that she didn't go that far with Liam.
"We need to break up." Hayden said, throwing it out there plain and simple. There was no thinking about it, she had thought about it long enough and she knew what she wanted.
"What? Why?" Liam asked. She could see the heartbreak in his eye. She knew that she was making the right decision for the both of them.
"We don't belong together. I though that I liked you, but I was blind by the kindness you showed me and all the other stuff." She explained, or at least she tried to. She knew he was confused by what she said. "I was never really in love with you, I only thought I was.
Liam looked at her, shaking his head then casting his gaze down to his shoes. "Well then." He didn't really know what to say. He had never had a girlfriend, Hayden was his first one and he didn't really know how to deal with these kind of things.
"I'm sorry." She said. She looked at him, running a hand through her hair. "I really am. I shouldn't have done this to you and ... it's better that this happen now than later."
"Yeah, yeah of course." He said and looked up at her. It hurt to look at her. It really did. He took a step back. I completely understand." He said, ever though he didn't understand at all.
"You'll find someone so much better than me, I know you will." Hayden said and nodded to reassure him and herself. She then took a breath and let it out. "Bye Liam." She said, even though she knew that she would have to see the rest of the year. She turned and walked away.
