"my nightmares consist of you kissing her and not me."
-"so you, you want to go back to New York?" my mum asked me quietly, placing her fork down on the table with a frown.
"yes?" I reply uncertainly, repeating her actions.
"o-okay." she says quietly, the table going silent for a few moments.
"I'm not leaving for a while though." I try to raise the mood, looking to my right to maisie. we both know I'm trying my hardest to keep all of them happy, to keep me happy too.
"yeah, I was planning on going with her when she goes." maisie chips in, my parents nodding in reply, obviously deep in thought.
"well, I don't say why not," mum begins. "was it fun there or something?"
"yeah, it was great. aside from your sister but..."
"wait, you stayed with Val?" my mum says with her eyes wide.
"y-yeah, and I swear mum I regret it." I raise my hands in surrender. "she messed up so many things."
"well, she does tend to do that." she smiles as if it was our of anger. "she told my parents that I did the things she did."
"like what?" maisie speaks up with her mouth agape.
"like, she'd blame me for doing drugs, and sleeping with several guys, she even told them that I got a tattoo." she shakes her head in amusement. "it was all her, though."
"did your parents believe her?" I ask her, anger running through my veins towards the one bitch of an aunt.
"of course they did. they always believed their baby of the family." she speaks with tension in her tone.
"and what'd they do?"
"they kicked me out of the house of course." she looks to my dad. "I stayed with one of my best friends for a while, and that's how I met your father."
"aw." maisie coos, tilting her head to the side with a smile.
"mais, that's disgusting." I smack her arm, making her screech at me and rubbing her arm.
"so that's why you hate her so much." I tell my mum, thinking about how hard of a time that must've been for her.
"yeah, even though she left after she graduated, I still ended up getting the job my mum and dad wanted me to. I ended up alright." she holds hands with my father on top of the table. "even if you mess up tons of times or if bad things happen to you, you'll be alright."
"why don't you girls head on up, mum and I'll do the dishes." dad pats my mums back while standing up.
we do as he suggests, but I turn around to remind them about Michael.
"hey, Michael's supposed to be coming over soon so just tell him we're upstairs." I said to them.
"just let him climb up to your window." mum said as she placed a dish in the dish washer.
"how'd you-"
"I gave you some freedom back then." she smiles shyly. she knew he'd come and see me, she just never did anything about it.
I smile to myself before resuming the walk back up the stairs to my large bedroom. maisie and I end up putting up an air mattress for her to sleep on while she's here, and give her sheets and blankets and pillows before Michael finally arrives.
"knock knock." he taps on the door frame of my door.
"who's there?" I ask playfully, making maisie chuckle while she set out her makeup in my bathroom.
