"I'm used to people leaving, it's nothing new. but when you left, it felt new. I really loved you."
-
"um yeah I guess you can stay with me for a bit." she says groggily. "I know this is crazy, but how are you gonna get here?"

"my parents made me have this college fund but I'm not going anytime soon." I chuckle lightly.

"that sure does sound like my sister. well get your ass over here soon so we can catch up." she says playfully, even though it's probably around 6 in New York.

"will do. love you val." I say.

"love you too Ames. see you soon."

okay, yes my aunt that my mom says "I turned out to be just like" is who I'm staying with. she's only around 21, and be being 16, we have a lot in common. she left because her bitchy parents wanted her to become just like her older sister, well my mom. she wanted to follow her career in cosmetology but they wanted her to become something more serious. like a lawyer or doctor. but that wasn't what Val wanted to do. so she left to chase her career. and here she is, having her own little popular cosmetology school in New York somewhere.

I breath out heavily. this is it. this is my last night here. my last few moments in this driveway. I plug the keys into the car before it starts, light sounding of the script and the fray playing through the speakers. I take one glance back at the Victorian size house in front of me. the one I've lived in since I was in diapers, but am leaving now. I pull out of the driveway, the whole neighborhood sound asleep.

the drive to the airport is filled with thoughts and worries. what if they don't let me get on the closest plane to New York? what if they won't let me bring all the things I need with me? what if.

"well goodbye car. it's been fun." I say, patting the hood of my car goodbye for the last time. I carry my heavy duffel bag over my shoulder into the vacant airport.

I get to the closest place to buy my ticket from here to New York. I show the chubby man behind the counter my passport and my ID, and I just say that my duffel is a carry on. he lets me go, and I finally get to the gate after tons of security checks.

I wait for about 15 minutes when our plane starts boarding. I am the first in line since there's only around 7 people getting on the plane. I hand the flight attendant my ticket before she lets me go through the tunnel. now I feel free. I have a feeling of freedom rushing through me as I step onto the plane.

I sit towards the middle of the plane, the inside seat near the window, when I smile to myself. I'm finally away from everyone in my life. this isn't just a new start for my parents, it's a new start for me. and this one will be much better than last time.

the flight will take about a whole day to get there, so I might as well get comfortable. the flight attendants give me several bags of their bagged pretzels and peanuts, which I eat plenty of since I didn't eat anything before I left.

after that I simply had nothing to do except listen to music with my headphones and stare at the dark sky. I knew then that this was going to be a very long ride, but I knew it'd be worth it.
