"the person you'd take bullet for is behind the trigger."
-"okay keep your eyes closed." Val instructs me.
"ugh I can't wait to see it!" I nearly jump out of my seat with excitement.
"just one more curl..." she trails on. "done!"
I pull my hands away from my eyes instantly when she says the word.
"oh my god it's amazing!" I say with my jaw to the ground, running my hands through my greyish-bluish hair.
"do you like it?" Val asks me, biting her lip.
"I love it! thank you so much!" I say hugging her tightly.
"you're welcome Ames." she answers, patting my back in the midst of the hug.
"wow this is amazing." I say, not being able to take my eyes off of my hair.
"it really suits you." Val says. "well at least you'll look great at your first day of work tomorrow."
"oh really?" I smirk.
"oh yeah." she wiggles her eyebrows.
"literally everybody that works here has something odd about their hair.""I do too now." I sigh in relief.
it feels so good to be able to be free and to be whoever I want."let's go. you've got a lot to learn." Val says, taking her keys out of her purse and exiting through the door.
"ugh I hate learning." I whine.
"do you want this job or not?" she smirks.
"I do I do. it's just- jet lag." I say tiredly wiping my eyes.
"fine whatever. I'll get someone to help you tomorrow." she says, walking up the stairs, where she apparently lives. it'd be pretty sick if I ever lived above my studio.
"Val you surprise me in every way how you make everything you own perfect." I chuckle lightly.
"well I only cleaned up because you were coming so expect it to be pretty
messy within a few days." she laughs,
putting her purse and keys on the dining table."oh yeah- let me show you you're room." Val says, cursing to herself for not letting me know sooner.
she opens the door to a decent size room, white walls, white sheets, all white. it makes the room seem bigger
with all of the late afternoon light shining through the window with white curtains."thank you for letting me stay with you." I say, meaning every word.
"it's my pleasure."she replies, putting her very dark purple hair into a messy bun. "whenever you wake up, there'll be something for you in the microwave."
I tell her thank you once more before I collapse onto the bed, being exhausted, but sleep never came to me. all I could think about was what everyone back home could possibly be doing without me there. they're probably being happy of course. this is the time I feel alone the most, when I'm by myself, overthinking everything I could possibly overthink. at times like
this back home, michael would talk to me and keep me company to not overthink. because he knew how bad I overthink everything. I remember one time in particular when my mom told me she was pregnant with Lola and he was there to help me.*flashback*
" what if I'll be a bad influence for he she whoever it is." I say, pacing around my room, running my hands through my hair.
"babe stop." he whines sitting on my bad. "I promise he or she will love you."
"what if they turn out like my parents? what if they hate me?" I say, my breathing becoming fast.
"come here." he says, holding his arms open wide. I fall onto his chest, him wrapping his arms around me.
"look at me." he whispers, my heart racing from his words. "amethyst they're going to love you. whether it's a guy or a girl, you know how I know? I know because you are you. you are not who everyone thinks you are. everyone thinks you're some stupid teenage girl who would do anything for sex and drugs, but that's not who you are. you are a young, beautiful, amazing girl who loves the stroky hand thumb thing like nobody else, who has a soft spot for babies and cats, and who I love
like crazy. and I know that I love you, and I know they will too.""wow clifford you really know how to make a girl's heart flutter." I say before
I crash my lips onto his and I swear a feel him smile against mine. his lips mold with mine as my legs straddle his hips. I deepen our kiss by tilting my head to the side as his tongue trails inside my mouth and bites down on my
bottom lip. I let out a small gasp before I hear the steps creaking up the stairs. I pull away so my parents don't catch us again."you have to go." I say out of breath. "before they see you."
"but we didn't-"
"go! on the roof." I order, shoving him through the window and out of sight as my bedroom door swings open.
"hey dad." I try to say as casually as I can.
"hey Ames?" he says suspiciously.
"whatcha need?" I say.
"just came to get the charger." he says slowly, walking towards the socket and pulling the charger out of it.
"bye." I wave to him as he backs out of my room and shutting the door.
I grab Michael's shirt around the corner of the window and dragging him inside.
"come here, idiot."
*end of flashback*
a single tear slips down my cheek as I lay on my bed. the memory of him just makes me wish I didn't leave, but he wouldn't want me if I were there anyways.
"not again." I mumble to myself with tears still falling from my eyes as I wipe them continuously.
to keep him off of my mind, I grab my Marlboro box out of my purse. I open the window and press the drug to my lips, wishing his were against mine instead of the paper.
